Gum Grove Park is a 10 acre gem that is sort of hard to find. All the locals that live in front of this park walk their dogs here and want it kept a secret. Why? Because it is one of the largest and best dog parks in the area. It is totally fenced in and has water and dog bags at the Avalon entrance. Plus, there are two parking areas for park users. The main entrance is on Avalon and the second and smaller one is on Herone Pointe off of Seal Beach Blvd.This park has a old closed main road that cuts through it at the base and many nice trails that are branching on the above sloping hill. Also, you can hike the Hellman Trail which dead ends about a quarter mile north. It is right at the entrance to the park. Just make sure to keep your dog on a leash, since local leash laws are always in effect.

Residents in the north Pine Avenue area of Long Beach partnered with the Metropolitan Transit Authority and the Long Beach Redevelopment Agency to transform a vacant lot at 9th and Pacific Avenue into the "K-9 Corner Dog Park." The park opened in September, 2009. It has a unique design that is environmentally friendly by using drought tolerant landscaping and generating 100% of its electricity on site with solar energy. The park has water fountains for humans and dogs, seating, evening lighting and separate areas for large and small dogs.

Lincoln Park at Broadway and Pacific is now home to the Downtown Dog Park. The park opened in September and has been serving the needs of downtown residents and their dogs and re-energizing a historic open space in our downtown civic center. The park has spaces for both large and small dogs, benches for owners, free doggie waste bags, and double entrance and exit gates.

Fred Hesse Junior Community Park

This park, with its well-manicured parkland and active community center, is one of the most popular in the City. Among the features available for public enjoyment in the upper park area are baseball and soccer fields, numerous picnic areas with barbecues, playground equipment suitable for toddlers to adolescents, and a well-used quarter mile walking path. Most of the privatized recreation classes are offered at this facility and many Peninsula Senior activities are held here. Additionally three rooms in the community center are available for rental for meetings and private parties. The newly developed lower park site offers a sand volleyball court, picnic areas (no barbecues permitted), leisurely walking paths, and comfortable locations for enjoying panoramic views of Catalina Island north to Malibu. As at all parks, dogs must be on a leash. Poop bags provided.
