San Fernando Road Bike Path
San Fernando Road Bike Path is one of 1600 rail-trails supported by Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, a nonprofit organization that is working to create a nationwide network of trails from former rail lines and connecting corridors. Previously an unused railroad corridor, this "rail-trail" is now a great place to walk Fido in Sylmar! The map below shows a parking area with convenient access to the San Fernando Road Bike Path. Solstice Canyon in Malibu features several options for easy, moderate, or strenuous hikes through coastal sage scrub and riparian plant communities. The perennial waterfall is a popular hiking destination, and along the way you might encounter acorn woodpeckers, alligator lizards, fence lizards, or a red-tailed hawk soaring overhead. This section of the mountain is owned by the city and offers what are quite possibly the best views of the Hollywood sign and the Los Angeles Basin. You will also enjoy the scenery as you look over at the San Gabriels or out to the ocean. Just make sure to keep Fido on a leash during the hike and clean up any pet messes. The trail can be accessed by parking at either the Griffith Observatory or at the Ferndell Trail in Los Feliz.
