Dog Bars Celebrating Oktoberfest

Posted by Billy Francis

Germany’s largest festival, Oktoberfest, is celebrated around the world, and not just by humans. Help your German Shepherd put on his lederhosen and head out to one of these vibrant dog park bars that are hosting an Oktoberfest celebration this year.

PG&Js Dog Park Bar is the first establishment of its type in Louisville. Pet parents are invited to sit, sip and stay while pups run freely in the 8,000-square-foot open space during PG&J's Annual BARKtoberfest. Dashing Dachshunds can take part in Wiener Dog Races and humans can try their hand at a stein-hoisting contest or corn hole tournament. In addition to these hotly-contested competitions, there will be live music, brats, hot dogs, and of course, lots of beer supplied by Gallant Fox Brewing Company.

PG&J's Annual BARKtoberfest will take place at 1 p.m. on October 21. Spend the night in the Gateway to the South’s premier pet-friendly property, Aloft Louisville Downtown, where dogs stay for free and receive treats and beds upon arrival.

Ruff Canine Club is the place to be in Richmond, where dogs and their owners can “relax, go off-leash and make new friends.” Come along for the club’s Barktoberfest and dance with your dog to live music. If you’re feeling hungry, you can sample special German food on the menu. The first 100 people to arrive receive a free beer stein to sip from all day, and canines in attendance will enjoy playing fetch on the super clean turf with new friends.

Barktoberfest will be held from noon to 9 p.m. on September 30. Grab a six-pack of your favorite German flavors to enjoy while overlooking the lake in a pet-friendly room at nearby Peaks of Otter Lodge.

“Dogs are welcome and people are tolerated” at Dogs & Drinks in Panama City. Bring your beloved best friend along to BARK-toberfest at Dogs and Drinks and pay homage to the famed German beer carnival together. As always, Fido can play off leash while you enjoy drinks from the walk-up bar, but there’s much more going on to keep you both entertained all day. Dress your dog up in his best costume for a chance to win prizes, cheer on the Dachshunds racing, yodel with your Beagle, play musical sits, and see if you can hoist your dog. Before the festivities come to a close, head to the themed photo area with Oktoberfest backdrops.

BARK-toberfest at Dogs and Drinks will begin at 5:30 p.m. on October 7. If you drink one too many pilsners, you don’t need to worry about driving back to Kenzie Cottage. Located within strolling distance of the dog park bar, this pet-friendly cottage has a fenced backyard and hardwood floors.

Oktoberfest at Park-9 Dog Bar

“Make mine a double!”

Park-9 Dog Bar proudly combines everybody’s two favorite hangout spots, a bar and a dog park, under one “woof.” Join other beer and dog lovers for their Wunderbar Oktoberfest celebration. Dogs can sip on a flight from Good Boy Dog Beer that includes the Mailman Malt Liquor and a Tail Chasin’ Blonde, while people enjoy an Oktoberfest beer from a local brewery in a Park-9 custom stein to take home. Then, “pawtrons” can run and play around the 10,000-square-foot venue and their people can soak up the beer with brats from the sausage truck.

Oktoberfest at Park-9 Dog Bar will be held on October 7. After all the fun, chill with your German Short-Haired Pointer at Envision Hotel Boston Everett, where pups receive beds, toys, bowls and treats.

The event will include a pet-focused vendor market, live music, foam paw-ty, a caricature artist for pups and people to commemorate the day, and more.

Barktoberfest @ Pups and Pints will be held from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on October 14. For an affordable stay in town, book a pet-friendly room at La Quinta by Wyndham Virginia Beach on the Virginia Beach Boardwalk.
