Pets in the Cabin
Small pets (cats, dogs, ferrets, guinea pigs, hamsters, chinchillas, rabbits, tortoises/turtles, and aquarium fish) can travel in the cabin if the combined weight of the pet and carrier does not exceed 17 lbs (8 kg). Animals are charged as excess baggage with Azores Airlines. The fee for pets traveling in the cabin on domestic flights is 4 EUR per kg; and on flights to Europe and Africa the fee is 15 EUR.
Pets in Checked Baggage
Animals who exceed the limit to travel in the cabin may be accepted as checked baggage instead. The maximum combined weight for pets and their carriers in the hold is 99 lbs (45kg). The transport of animals as checked baggage is included in your baggage allowance on domestic, European, and African flights. The fee on flights to/from the USA and Canada is $100 for animals up to 70 lbs (32 kg); and $150 for animals weighing between 70-100 lbs (32-45 kg)
For pets traveling in the cabin, carriers must not exceed the dimensions of 21" L x 15" W x 8" H (55 cm x 40 cm x 20 cm). Carriers should allow pets to stand up, turn around, and lie down comfortably inside. The doors must have a fully secure locking system and be ventilated on at least 3 sides. The carrier must be made of a strong material to be escape-proof and leak-proof. Absorbent material should be placed on the inside. For pets traveling in the hold, carriers should not exceed 39" L x 30" W x 27" H (100 cm x 78 cm x 69 cm). They must be well-ventilated with handles for transportation.
The following breeds of animals are not allowed to travel with Azores Airlines: Fila Brasileiro, Dogo Argentino, Pit Bull Terrier, Rottweiler, American Staffordshire Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, and Tosa Inu.
