Beautiful park

Franklin Lakes Nature Preserve

It is a beautiful park with a small lake where people boat In the summer. It has multiple trails and has one of the only wheelchair friendly “trails” in the area. That trail has 2 areas with wheelchair accessible picnic tables. There is a small boardwalk area as part of that trail. The main trail goes around the lake and there are a few ways to go. Its really cool because you walk on bridges that connect these little islands on the lake. There a lot of roots and things. My dog loves this park!

It is now known as Mayor Dunlevy park

Mayor Dunleavy Memorial Park

It is now known as Mayor Dunlevy park. There is now a dog park in the front. The trails start behind the dog park and are beautiful. There are several different color trails and vary in difficulty but are pretty “easy” trails. There are hills and rocks and a very small stream (sometimes). Its one of my dogs favorite places. There are houses surrounding it but it is still very wooded. Its a nice little place for a quick walk if you don’t feel like walking in the neighborhoods or at the track. The trails are usually not busy. The listing mentions bears which are totally a possibility but I’ve never seen them in there. I have seen a lot of deer though.
There are ticks in the area so be aware of that.

Great hotel in a very dog friendly town!

Best Western Plus Vineyard Inn & Suites

Great dog friendly hotel! He got a goody bag with a tennis ball and some treats. The room was clean and very comfortable. They also had a nice breakfast. Behind the hotel they had a grassy area with a clean up bag station. It is located close to the town, a park with a trail and is a short drive from the lake. The lake also had a park with a play ground and some benches by the water. The stores in Penn Yan were also very dog friendly, several stores had “dogs welcome” signs or the shop workers saw us with him outside and welcomed him in.

Ok dog friendly trails but try Eagle cliff falls with Fido instead

Watkins Glen State Park

I walked with my dog on the dog friendly trails and my group took turns walking with us or walking in the gorge. I have been there before so I didn’t mind just going on the dog friendly trails with him. It can get confusing where dogs can and can’t go. We did the north rim trail and it’s cool but you can’t really see the gorge. Eagle cliff falls is not far from there and gives you more of the feel of being in the gorge but is dog friendly. Once you get to the top you see a beautiful waterfall and there is some shallow water. Like Watkins glen, You do have to walk up some steep stairs to get there so it’s not inclusive to people and pups who can’t do or have difficulty with steps and uneven surfaces.
