Many miles of trails
Staunton State ParkMy pup enjoyed the 15 mile hike we took here a couple of months ago. The main attraction was the waterfall, but we added on some extra mileage visiting other trails. The park had a few porta-potties.
We did see a few cars back by the dam- makes hiking less enjoyable when all of a sudden some random vehicle (non-park) comes flying past on a trail that is supposed to be closed to vehicles.
Unfortunately, not everyone obeys the on-leash requirement, so while we were enjoying the waterfall, we had 3 pups race down the hill at us and it was a few minutes before we could see their owner.
Quiet trails
Vail Nature CenterI've been walking my dog here on-and-off for the past 6 months and she really enjoys the variety of smells. There is a creek that runs alongside some of the paths. I've never found the trails to be crowded. At the east end of the trails is a golf course- no dogs allowed. The north and west ends are bordered by Ford Park which is an on-leash park.
Good for water-loving dogs
Stephens Park (West Vail Dog Park)This park has a stream, several benches, and a picnic table. Unfortunately, it is not fenced and I have seen dogs run into the road here.
I wish it had a fence.
Bighorn Park Off Leash Dog AreaMy dog and I enjoy walking around the pond, but I'd feel better if the park had a fenced area.
Inexpensive evening
88 Drive-In TheatreMy dog enjoyed sitting next to me in the car while I enjoyed 3 movies for $9. Dogs are also welcome in the concession stand so that their owners can buy food.
