A few issues
Stoney Creek Hotel Tulsa - Broken ArrowUpon first arrival, the hotel appeared nice. Location was good. Close to many dining options. Prior to arrival I was contacted by BringFido staff to tell me that the pet fee had been increased from $25 to $35/night. When I walked in, the desk staff were engaged in what appeared to be a personal conversation that I had to wait for the conclusion of. I found the person checking me in to be a bit off-putting in the way she spoke to me, like she was miffed about having to cut her conversation short.
I was then promptly told "you're going to be charged $25 for incidentals." How am I going to be charged for something that *MAY* occur? I questioned her to which she seemed confused. She was unable to explain that "the hotel will put a $25 HOLD on your credit card for incidentals." Which, we all know is normal. Once past that, I inquired to make sure that they had me listed as traveling with a pet. Guess what? They didn't. And that turned into a "well you need to fill out this form," which she couldn't find.
And then I was assigned a room on the 3rd floor after being told that the only entry/exit is in the center of the hotel through the lobby. I later found out on my own there is another exit out the back of the property a level up from the lobby. There are no facilities for pet owners on the front of the property. It wasn't until I walked the entirety of the property that I found another property entry/exit and pet area. The bag stand was empty. Unfortunately, some bad owners had recently visited as exemplified by the dog waste left in the grass.
I stayed 3 nights and the same trash was blowing around the entrance, the same cigarette butts were piled up, the smoker's outpost by one end of the building was knocked over blowing in the wind when I arrived (sitting next to an overflowing trash can) and stayed that way the entirety of my visit. Overall, the room was clean and in good repair.
I feel that better initial staff interaction could have gone a long way, as could the property grounds being in better repair. Clean/supplied grounds for pet owners is part of the "traveling with pets" experience, or at least it should be when you're paying per pet, per night. I will say that I did interact with a couple of other staff and they seemed to understand the hospitality portion of their position. This could have been a better stay with a little effort.
Decent stay overall
La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Des Moines West CliveLocation is convenient to major highways. Room was clean and comfortable, appeared recently updated. Grounds could use some attention as some people traveling with animals have left their messes behind. It's shameful that some people traveling with pets have to make it difficult for others to do so by means of being inconsiderate/trashy.
Overall a good stay
Country Inn & Suites by Radisson Wichita East KSStaff was very friendly and respectful. I haven't seen this level in a long time. Great job by staff! Room was clean and comfortable. It was starting to show its age (several layers of repaint on doors, etc.) and use. A/C unit was struggling and making lots of erratic noises. There were sufficient grassy areas to walk the dog and let her handle business. Some discourteous previous visitors left their messes behind which is shameful and lazy (not the hotel's fault) and only makes traveling with animals that much more difficult for future visitors. Hotel is convenient to major highways. Overall a good stay.
Good budget stay
Best Western Coach HouseWas looking for a budget stay when traveling with my dog. This fit the bill well. Staff was very pleasant. Room, while dated, was clean and comfortable. Drive right up to your room door and park. Dog "facilities" were right out the front door and easy access.
Good room, with a couple of notes
La Quinta by Wyndham BentonvilleThe room quality was sufficient and on par with what I expect from La Quinta. My issues are these: The hotel charges you a fee for your dog and requires you to fill out paperwork stating that you'll be a responsible pet owner during your stay. Why is there dog feces in every green area around the hotel? Piles everywhere. Irresponsible pet owners are the cause, but why isn't the hotel keeping up with this maintenance need?
My second issue is with them putting me on the 3rd floor, center of the hotel. This means long walks to the stairway, down 2 flights of stairs, walk the dog around the feces all around the property, then hike back up the stairs, and down the hallways. Seems fairly inconsiderate considering they charge for a pet and the hotel was maybe at 20% capacity the night we stayed. I confirmed with the front desk staff and was told that ALL rooms are pet friendly, you just have to pay the fee. Again I ask, what did the fee cover?
Avoid this place
Americas Best Value Inn & Suites Bryant Little RockThe room was a wreck. Ten different shades of paint on the walls where holes, dents, and damage had been previously "repaired" (poorly). The mattress was more like cloth covered wires than an actual mattress. No soap in the room except for the used partial bar still in shower. Flooring was TRASHED. The amount of dirt around the door frame was disturbing. You could literally draw a picture in the dirt if you wanted to. The stains on the chair will give you nightmares (about 15% of the chair bottom was eaten/chewed off). It was so bad that my wife and I abandoned the room about 10 minutes after walking in. When we saw the totality of how awful this room was, there was no way we were staying. That sad part is, for $30 more than what we paid for this dumpster, we stayed across the street in a freshly renovated hotel that we weren't afraid to sleep in (can only imagine what's living in the sheets, yuck). Nasty.
Decent with a couple of issues
La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham FayettevilleRoom/hotel was on par for what I'd consider a normal La Quinta experience. My two grievances are: The hotel charges you a fee for your dog and requires you to fill out paperwork stating that you'll be a responsible pet owner during your stay. Why is there dog feces in every green area around the hotel? Piles everywhere. Irresponsible pet owners are the cause, but why isn't the hotel keeping up with this maintenance need?
Secondly, why would they put pet owners on the 2nd floor, in middle of the hotel. Seems very inconvenient to put people who are making multiple trips due to their pets, on something other than the first floor. There was plenty of room at the hotel based on occupancy (I did check with staff). I paid the extra "pet fee" so what is this going towards? It's a bit ridiculous to get all the warnings and pay all the fees, only to have to navigate around all of these fails/messes.
Know your stay
Motel 6 Big Springs NEIt's a Motel 6. Expect that level of motel and you won't be disappointed. Room was clean, quiet, comfortable. It's a basic room that does its job. Staff was pleasant to deal with. Grounds for pet relief could be better. It's overgrown in native grass and burrs. My dog had a burr in her paw within the first 3 seconds of walking in the grass. Common issue in that part of the world. No issues to discuss.
Easy stay
Cobblestone Inn & Suites - KerseyEasy access, quiet, clean. Adequate dog relief area as well. Room was very nice. No issues to report. Dining options in town are VERY limited, be advised.
No. No. No.
Motel 6-Avoca IA$85/night? Pull in and weeds are taller than anything else growing. Trash blowing through parking lot. Mold in bathroom around tub/floor. Killed 9 crickets after being in my room for 5 minutes (their friends sing you to sleep later, if you accidentally fall asleep with all the surrounding big rig noise). Sketchy people hanging out in parking lot. If you're traveling with a pet, you'll have the luxury of walking them through the weeds and trash so that they can do their business. I was worried my dog would find a used needle or worse. Pretty shameful for $85/night. The counter guy was decent to work with is the only positive I can say about this place.
Friendly staff, run down property
Super 8 by Wyndham Chamberlain SDStaff was decent to work with, no issues there. Property has seen better days. Everything needs to be redone. Trash from corner to corner of property. Dog mess EVERYWHERE. While I know that stems from bad dog owners not picking up after their dogs, it's also the property's responsibility to keep up with that. This was a roof and 4 walls, nothing more.
Comfortable, familiar stay
Holiday Inn Express Deforest an IHG HotelStaff was pleasant, attentive, and efficient. Plenty of grounds for your dog to walk/exercise/handle business. Rooms were well-appointed, clean, and comfortable. Would stay again if in the area. Missing one bone? Hotel is a bit pricey for the level of accommodation is my only issue.
Not deserving of Ramada's name
Ramada by Wyndham North PlatteWhile the management was friendly and did their jobs well, this property is hot garbage. The room was pieced back together in an attempt to be "remodeled". Paper thin walls, noisy neighbors, trashy people hanging around, trash all through the parking lot, unkept grounds, stains, mold, paint falling off of shower (who paints plastic shower inserts anyway??), the list goes on. I would highly recommend finding other accommodations as this is not deserving of your hard earned travel money. I've been a traveler both personally and professionally for over 30 years and this is definitely low rent living. No thanks. The only reason it's not rated "1 bone" is at least the manager was doing his best.
