If you can avoid North Charleston, do it!
Rodeway InnThe pictures of this hotel show a really nice check-in/lobby area. It gives the impression that this is an updated well-kept hotel. Had we not needed to make a last-minute change on the same day while wanting to keep things in our price range, we would never have stayed here. They were out of non-smoking rooms so our room had a strong smell of vaping. That would have been ok, but it was the poorly hanging drapes, the dirty walls & doors, the light fixtures that didn’t work, & the loud music coming from the room above us that made this a less than desirable stay. The grassy area behind the hotel where we attempted to walk the dog was covered in shards of glass. Save yourself the experience & head to the next city.
Good location in a beautiful town
Comfort Inn Asheville East-Blue Ridge Pkwy AccessThis was our first time through Asheville and, had it not been raining, we would have really enjoyed exploring the area. The hotel is located in an easily accessible area to travelers. The manager who checked us in was friendly and personable. We had a comfortable room with everything that we needed. Walking areas for the dog were a bit sparse but the poor weather contributed to our inability to take our dog for a decent walk. This hotel has an outdoor pool but no workout room. However, it met our needs.
Decent hotel but lost power
Quality Inn Lexington -Horse ParkShortly after checking into our room, the lights began to go on & off & then the hotel lost power. Although there was a generator that continued to provide us with minimal lighting in hallways & rooms, there was no wi-fi, no TV, no a/c. When we went to check for information from the front desk, the elevator wasn’t working either. We were told that this happens somewhat frequently, but there was no information as to how long it would be out. Additionally, power appeared to be lost to all locations within a mile radius. It had been raining outside but the power loss was not due to an electrical storm or high winds. After about 4 hours power was restored, but the elevator never worked again. Breakfast the following morning is not worth mentioning. It would be nice if management had a way of communicating with all patrons in a situation like this, especially since they indicated that power outages have occurred before. There also should be some type of compensation offered to hotel patrons when this happens. If not for this inconvenience, I would have likely rated this hotel higher because I have generally been very satisfied with our stays at Comfort Inn.
Nice room & lots of green space
Comfort Inn Lafayette I-65We arrived an hour early for check-in but the manager was very gracious & provided us a room near an outdoor exit where we could walk our dog. The room was large & clean without that lingering “dog smell” that you sometimes find in dog-friendly rooms. Unfortunately it was rainy during most of our visit but the location was great; it was a short distance to the interstate & there were many restaurants within a 2-mile radius. Although we didn’t use them, there was a large indoor pool & a workout room available. We would definitely stay at this Comfort Inn again.
Cancelled without staying
Extended Stay America Select Suites - Charleston - North Charleston - I-526We were booked to stay at the Extended Stay America for April 5, 2024. The hotel appeared somewhat worn down from the outside & there were several individuals “hanging out” in the parking lot. When entering the building, the check-in desk is in a small area separated from the rest of the hotel with a locked door to prevent anyone from entering the hotel beyond without a key.
The manager informed me that in addition to the advance room deposit paid & the additional deposit that I needed to pay for our dog, there would be an additional $200+ charge to make sure there was no room damage which would be refunded to me two weeks after my stay. That was unacceptable to me, so I said that I would be canceling the reservation. The manager was very gracious about it.
I immediately contacted BringFido about this cancellation & to help me locate another hotel. While on the phone still in the hotel parking lot, two police squads pulled in & the officers went inside. I have stayed in many hotels in different cities, but this place did not feel right. As I didn’t actually stay there, I can’t describe the room. But I can also say that in all of the bookings that I have made with BringFido over the years, I have never once cancelled a reservation upon arrival.
Nice hotel, good location
Hampton Inn New BernThis was a one-night stop on our way to Myrtle Beach. The staff was friendly & gracious & placed us in a room at the end of the hallway so that we could easily access the outdoor area for our dog. There were two dog stations available with some spacious grassy areas for walking. Our room was spacious with a really comfortable bed. Free breakfast included mini-Denver omelettes which were very good. Quick access to historical downtown New Bern from our hotel.
Great location & very dog friendly
Aloft Durham DowntownWe were delighted to find ourselves right next to the Durham Bulls Stadium. Aloft Durham is a great place to stay with spacious rooms & friendly staff. This is a dog-friendly part of town with grassy areas & dog stations available for you as you walk your dog. There are a number of restaurants within walking distance where you can pick up some yummy food for carry out if you don’t choose to sit at a brew pub, many of which will allow dogs. We would definitely stay at the Aloft Durham again if we were passing through the city.
Worst experience ever
Americas Best Value Inn St. Louis SouthThere should be a zero bones category because this hotel would be it. I should have known by the serious need for the lobby to be repainted & the hodge-podge of items placed behind the desk apparently for sale. I had paid upfront to guarantee this room knowing I would have to pay the additional pet fee upon arrival. I was also required to pay an additional deposit of $50 on my credit card which I was told I would receive back when I turned in my keys the following day.
The room was a disaster. The fire alarm was dangling by a wire. There was a square piece of tape posted on the wall to cover a hole punched through the plaster. The double bed, which I thoroughly checked for bed bugs & luckily found none, had two flat pillows for two adults. There was one bath towel, hand towel, & wash cloth which was filthy gray. Since covid, I carry bleach wipes everywhere which we used to wipe down every surface in this room. The final outrage, however, was when my dog grabbed the bones of a chicken wing that he found on the floor that I had to grab out of his mouth.
There were grassy areas around the hotel but I avoided them when I saw piles of poop & instead walked my dog along the road. When I checked out I was told I’d get the $50 back within 24 hours. I am happy to report that I did, but I waited to post this review until I confirmed that it was credited back. This is not a place I would recommend to anyone ever to stay in.
Clean & adequate
TexInn MotelThe best feature of this motel is that we were able to park right outside of our room with direct door access. Despite being located next door to a busy gas station, our room was surprisingly quiet. It was clean & spacious. The challenge of traveling with a dog in Texas is that there are few grassy areas for dogs to relieve themselves. Dog-friendly may describe a hotel policy, but it cannot be assumed that there will be any location on the hotel property for your pet to go potty.
Walking distance to restaurants
The Inn and Suites at 34 FiftyIt would be easy to pass this hotel up, which we did the first time we went by, because it is in the middle of a busy area surrounded by restaurants & businesses. This hotel offered Starbucks coffee & hot chocolate available in the lobby 24/7. The room was large & clean with a comfortable king-sized bed & a mini-refrigerator with a freezer. The recurring problem that we have found with every hotel in Texas so far is that there is no place to walk your dog on the property. Without any available options we found a gap in the fence surrounding the property where we were able to walk him in a drainage area that was dirty & littered.
Convenient location close to St Paul
La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham St Paul-WoodburyWe have really liked the layout & hospitality of La Quinta Inns. Rooms on the first & second floors are reserved for pets but they don't have that old wet dog smell that so many "dog rooms" seem to have. There are pet bags by pet walk areas. Would definitely stay here again when we are in town to visit relatives.
Quaint little hotel in Quebec City
Hotel ChamplainWe were happy with our experience at Hotel Champlain, located in the city. Our room was clean & modern, & did not have that "dog smell" that rooms designated for pets so often do. It was a short walk to nearby parks where we could walk our dog. There is an additional expense for parking your car & they want to keep your car keys behind the desk if you aren't using the car; not sure why they have that policy. But we had a very nice experience during our stay.
Super nice hotel
Delta Hotels by Marriott Toronto MississaugaWe really liked this hotel but felt the $30 charge to use the parking garage overnight while staying as a guest (when the daily rates posted were much lower) was excessive. If not for that, would have definitely rated this 5 bones. Very nice hotel with bar & restaurant. Large, clean room with great view of the city. Sidewalks lead to grassy areas along side of parking lot across street, which was more than adequate for our dog.
Loved this hotel
Best Western Plus Edmundston HotelThis was a great place to stay with a dog. Our patio doors opened right out to the parking lot so very easy to unload/load our car. There was a sidewalk along side of the hotel that led to either a neighborhood or open area in the other direction, so plenty of space to give your dog some exercise. The room was really nice & spacious & we were very comfortable. This was the best hotel that we stayed in while in Canada.
great location
Anchorage MotelThe Anchorage is a roadside inn with quick access to Acadia Natl Park. There are small grassy areas in front of the property & along the sidewalk next to the street where you can walk your dog. Although the furnishings in our room were dated, the room was clean & comfortable.
easy access to the outdoors makes this a nice stop for dog families
Ramada Plaza by Wyndham PortlandThe Ramada Plaza is located south of Portland, so it takes about 15 minutes to get into the city. That means that you do have to drive a bit from the hotel to get some food. The first floor room was clean & spacious enough for our dog, & we really appreciated being able to access the outdoors directly from our sliding patio door. This is a large property with surrounding grass so there is lots of area available to walk dogs. There is an actual designated area for dogs between the parking lots but it did not seem to be used much as it is a distance from the actual hotel & the dog bag dispensary was empty. Note: Hotel staff will do a room inspection prior to your checkout when you have a pet.
Spacious Room But Limited Grassy Area
La Quinta by Wyndham New HavenLots of dogs staying at this hotel which is just off a major highway. Grassy areas are littered
Reasonable hotel in Perrysburg
La Quinta Inn by Wyndham Toledo PerrysburgWe were warmly welcomed by the sweet woman at the desk, who provided some small dog treats for our puppy. We were very happy to get a room on the first floor with relatively easy access to the outdoors. There was a grassy area for dogs along with a number of other paths, some with sidewalks, where we were able to walk him. There are a number of great little parks within one mile of this location, so we did have places where we could take our dog for a decent walk without the traffic of a hotel. We had a king-sized bed with refrigerator, microwave, & coffee-maker so this was a good location for us & our dog.
