Dog Un-friendly

La Quinta by Wyndham Memphis Wolfchase

The young girl at the front desk was pleasant but not knowledgeable, I think she was new. Upon check-in, I asked if our dogs could sit with us at breakfast and she asked another woman at the desk (manager?) who said no. I said since we weren't allowed to leave our pets unattended in the room and they can't sit with us at breakfast, what are we supposed to do? She replied curtly that we could eat in our room, like that should have been obvious to me.

I looked around and noticed that there were chairs and tables in the lobby area, away from the breakfast food area, and asked if we could eat there with the dogs. She flatly said no, end of discussion! I understand that they don't want animals near the food service, but their unwillingness to even try to accommodate us or try to make our stay more enjoyable was disappointing. We have stayed at other La Quintas, and other hotel brands, where they provided alternatives to allow us to have our dogs accompany us at breakfast.

In addition to that, the next morning as we were loading up a luggage cart in our room, one of our dogs slipped out of the room without our knowledge and ended up wandering into the kitchen area. The staff freaked out and shooed him right out the front door of the lobby, where he could have ran into the street, etc. Luckily a good Samaritan in the breakfast dining area jumped up and ran outside and caught our dog by the collar and held him until I could catch up to them.

I realize that it was our fault for not keeping track of him, but for the staff to not even care that they were putting our dog in danger was unforgivable. If your hotel is supposed to be pet friendly, then you better have staff that can handle interactions with pets! These are not wild animals that wander into the building, these are our pets, in some ways they are like our children. If a toddler wandered into a restricted area would they shoo them out the front door? I would hope not. Accidents happen, and I apologized for my part of that, but no one apologized to me for their over reaction and almost losing my pet, or worse.

Clean, Comfortable, Quiet

Best Western Shelbyville Lodge

This hotel is basic, but it had everything we needed for a one night stay with our 2 dogs. Clean, comfortable beds, quiet temp control unit in the room, and no noise from nearby roads. I would have preferred flooring other than carpet in the room like most pet rooms we have stayed in since they are easier to clean up any messes. We were able to get a ground floor room close to outside access. The interior corridors helped me feel safe and there were a lot of grassy areas around the perimeter of the hotel for the dogs. Not a lot of pet-friendly dining options around the immediate area. At least the hotel had an outside patio where we could eat the free breakfast without leaving the dogs in the room. They have a lot of rules about the dogs, which made me feel like the staff was not very friendly, but nothing that I wouldn't do anyway, like pick up after your dog, keep them leashed in public areas, etc.

Disappointed

Gopher’s Grill

We needed a place to stop for lunch on our way through this area and chose this place because it had an outdoor patio to sit with our dogs. But when we got there the patio was closed and they said it is seasonal and doesn't open until after Memorial Day.

Awful

Motel 6 Tempe AZ - Scottsdale South

Run down hotel, run down commercial part of town, the room smelled like smoke even though we requested a non-smoking room, noisy busy street all night long, we even heard gun shots at 2am. We couldn't wait to get out of there in the morning. There was plenty of grassy area for our pets to use, but it was obvious that other guests didn't pick up after theirs. The hotel staff at the front desk was friendly.

Nice facility

La Quinta by Wyndham Albuquerque West

Plenty of space for the dogs to do their business, the room is a bit dated but kept up, staff was very nice and didn't have a problem with us bringing the dogs to the breakfast area in the morning. And even though it was right next to a busy freeway, our room was very quiet. The only criticism is that the surrounding area is commercial and not very attractive, and the property is surrounded by a tall wrought iron fence, I assume for protection. And there is a security guard on the premises. I guess that should make me feel safer, but also made me feel like we were not in a good area of town. Needless to say we did not take the dogs for any walks outside the fence.

Very good experience

SpringHill Suites by Marriott Oklahoma City Airport

Nice property, clean and spacious rooms. Plenty of grassy areas to take the dogs. Close to restaurants and facilities.

Just ok

La Quinta by Wyndham Salina

We have stayed in other La Quintas that were much better. This one seemed a bit run down, but we chose it because it looked like the best choice in Salina. The woman at the front desk was polite but not friendly. Even after I got stuck in their elevator for 10 minutes with another person and my dog. No apology, nothing. Plenty of space for dog relief outside. The free breakfast was convenient, but they don't allow dogs in the dining area, which I get, but most other places at least offer another area in the lobby away from the food to sit and eat with your pets. Not here, their lobby is small and they just had a beat up couch next to the front desk. So we had to eat in our rooms because they don't allow you to leave your pets unattended in the rooms either!

Wonderful experience

Holiday Inn Express & Suites Wentzville St Louis West an IHG Hotel

We only stayed one night, but I wish we could have stayed longer! Right off the freeway but not so close to be noisy. Beautifully landscaped area with plenty of grassy areas for our dogs. Great restaurants nearby, not greasy spoons or fast food chains. Nice clean rooms and comfy beds, quiet climate control, large lobby where we could sit with our dogs during breakfast away from the food service areas. Very friendly and helpful staff, and very welcoming to our pets -- dog treats at the front desk!
