I'm a woman and a retired sea captain who worked my way up on fishing boats to tugs before receiving my USCG Master's license. After I left tugs, I signed on to run a sea kayak adventure from a remote floathouse in Sitka, Alaska. That's where I met a man who paddled a sea kayak from Canada to Mexico. He was sent to train my guides and myself and we have been together ever since 1994.

Among many things that include wild efforts fighting whalers in our own country and forming a very cool whale conservation, education and research project, Inspired by that, we created Sanctuary Cruises in Moss Landing on the Monterey Bay, the only conservation-based whale watching company on the west coast. and we rocked them. After over a decade, we sold to folks who have continued the tradition.

Now, we're semi-retired and run vacation rentals on the Trinity River in Lewiston and in Dunsmuir near Mt. Shasta. See our website at trintyriveradventureinn..com. We have great, well-equipped places that are, naturally, dog-friendly.

A Must-Go in Redding!

Benton Dog Park

We live up in the mountains but shop in Redding and the high point of the day is hitting Benton.

We have a large, young and wildly exuberant dog and she has a ball there. We almost always have at least many dogs she can run and play with, plus she enjoys the little pool for splashing around and good shade year-round. There is a smaller dog side as well and both sides have tables and seating.

You and your dogs can have lunch next door at dog-friendly Benton Airpark Cafe. The Airpark owner has a stunning Stearman Navy bi-plane you can check out, too. It's in perfect condition and the dream plane for many pilots.
