Much better than Motel 6
Extended Stay America San Diego - Hotel CircleThis hotel cost a bit more than Motel 6 but was worth the extra money. The staff was very friendly and pleasant, the room was spacious and clean, plus having a kitchenette helped us save $$$ with food. Would stay here again.
Clean, comfortable and very convenient
Red Roof Inn St Louis - Troy ILPlanned on staying one night but extended it to three. The room was clean, conformable and front desk was very polite and helpful. No designated dog area but plenty of grassy areas near by to walk dog. This was great location for exploring St. Louis, an easy 20 min drive into city.
Not a great experience.
Red Roof Inn PLUS+ Chicago - WillowbrookAfter changing rooms a few times we got one that we could live with. First one smelled quite bad, obviously had smokers in it despite no smoking status. Smoke alarm was beeping also. The second room A/C didn’t work. Third room was ok but mattress was incredibly worn out, otherwise room was acceptable. Motel was catering to road crews working in area. There were a few people who appeared to be living in cars in parking lot. The one nice thing was lots of grassy areas for pets. But otherwise, can’t say I’d recommend this motel.
The good, the bad and the ugly
Motel 6 El Cajon CA - San DiegoThe property itself wasn’t bad. It had a nice grassy courtyard for pet relief and was well stocked with bags. The room was ok, the shower decent, the bed was a little funky but acceptable. Being familiar with the area, the clientele was pretty much what I expected...lots of sketchy folks at the motel. But there were no problems. The nearby vicinity had lots of homeless which isn’t surprising. The motel has a security guard patrolling property, a big plus. When we checked in the front desk definitely didn’t give off warm and friendly vibes; very serious and no-nonsense but considering the job that’s actually a good thing. However, in the evening when we ordered take out, only to discover we had no utensils, the gal at the front desk came thru in a big way. We asked if she had any plasticware assuming she’d say no only to have her say “ABSOLUTELY!” with a big smile and hand us four pairs of utensils just in case we needed more. That made our evening! Overall, for $50/night it was good enough, just keep expectations low and you’ll be mildly surprised.
Big room
La Quinta by Wyndham AnaheimKing suite was a very nice sized room with separate sitting area, plenty of space. Compared to the average Motel 6, this was much better and for only a little more money. The one downside was no designated pet area, bag station etc.
