No Fun
Pensacola Beach West Dog ParkMy dog could not do anything she wanted to do. Could not run and fetch a ball thrown into the water with a leash on, could not really play with other dogs with a leash on, could not go for a long walk within the tiny boundaries of this beach.
Not Dog Friendly
Tomato Pie CafeWe asked to sit on the porch, where only one table was occupied. She sat people from inside until all the tables were full - and then went back inside. So I went in to ask for a table, "oh sorry", and put us out on the empty patio. Our server wandered out, "are you still looking?", wandered off without taking our drink orders and never came back. So we left.
Large Dogs Allowed
Old Savannah ToursI'm rating this 5 bones because everyone was perfectly friendly and accommodating to my 2 60 lb dogs. But the truth is, my dogs did not enjoy it that much. The trolley was full so we kept them at our feet. We were in the first row behind the driver so there was extra space but they didn't really like it. The last few stops, they were eyeballing the door each time it opened, ready to escape to freedom! I think they would have liked it better on the seat looking out - but we would have had to take up two whole seats. The tour itself was great, highly recommend it.
Outstanding Pizza
Bizzarro's Famous NY PizzaThey don't really care about your dog, they did not bring water or fuss over them. But who cares when the pizza is so blasted good? Plus, the other dog owners around were very friendly and a lot of people stopped to pet our pups.
On Leash is Boring!
St. Augustine BeachesWith all the miles of beaches, I'm not sure why they can't have a dedicated off leash area for dogs. Walking on the beach is okay but running and playing is just so much better.
Okay But Not Great
Anastasia State ParkI'm not sure why dogs are allowed on all beaches - except at the state parks. But at least they are allowed on trails, which is not allowed everywhere. We tether our dogs at our campsite on leads longer than 6 feet and no one complained, although I suppose if our dogs had caused a problem the rangers would have said something.
Not too many dogs around but fun
Assateague National SeashoreWe were camping at the national park and just hopped over the dunes to the beach. Okay, confession here: when the beach was empty of both people and wildlife, we let them off leash. Just to let them run off some energy, it's hard to get them enough exercise when you are traveling. We also walked them on leash and they enjoyed that too. We saw a seal sunning himself but not very many other dogs. which is okay with us since we have two. Then we moved to the bay side and let them swim. We kept them inside when there were horses around, no point in looking for trouble.
Rare Off-Leash in Florida!
Dog Park Beach at Fort de Soto ParkThis is the only off-leash dog beach that we have found in Florida, and it is great. A long and wide section of beach devoted to dogs. All the owners there were knowledgeable and knew how to manage their dogs. Unfortunately, I almost placed my chair in un-picked up dog poop. C'mon people, don't ruin it for the rest of us. I spoke to a visitor center in the panhandle and she explained that they made their dog beach locals only because they found that tourists do not pick up the poo. I'm sure there are locals that are jerky like that too but tourists tend to have the "hey, I'm on vacation" mentality.
One crummy table
Oceanside PizzaDespite the name, this is not oceanside. There is one sidewalk table overlooking the parking lot with the busy street beyond. Still, we wanted pizza so I had a seat and mu husband went inside to order. We wanted beers with our pizza but they do not serve beer outside. She said she would be out in a minute to take our order. We waited...and waited. The waitress never came. My husband went inside to return the menus and she was busy chatting with someone. So we left.
Just too small
Dog Beach at Pier ParkI didn't think the size would bother me but once we got there I realized all we could do was stand in one spot and let our dogs play in a 6 foot radius around us. There was an unfriendly dog to one side and a bunch of non-dog people taking up space on the other.
