Good stay at a bargain price
Heritage Inn Yosemite SonoraVery good room - firm bed, clean, nice bathroom, everything in good repair. My only minor quibble is that the towels could have been nicer, but I'm happy to bring my own towel at such a good price!

3 Strikes!
La Quinta by Wyndham Las Vegas Airport SouthI've had some good stays at this place in the past, but the management must have changed because it's bad, bad bad now! First, the mattress was lumpy and clearly way past its prime, with hard and soft spots in various places. Second, the room was stuffy and hot and the A/C didn't work. I complained about the broken A/C multiple times but their maintenance guy was unable to fix it. Third, the neighboring room was extremely noisy in the middle of the night - music, shouting, thumping like they were wrestling around.

OK for the price
Topaz LodgeBasic room at a low low price. No fridge or microwave, but that's par for the course with cheap rooms.
What cost them 2 bones was that the heater smelled bad - like 20 years of cigarettes in there. Clearly, they had converted the room to non-smoking but neglected to change the old, smoky heater filter.

Old building and horrible bed
Extended Stay America Suites Los Angeles Torrance HarborgateThe room was clean and pretty good size. The plumbing sort of worked, though the tub/shower drain was dog slow and you ended up in ankle-deep water after a brief shower. The bed was horrible - rickety and about to collapse. Many of the electrical outlets didn't work. The whole place needs a remodel.

Everything was great
Deer Haven InnThe room was clean and spacious. The location is close to several good dog walking areas. The staff were friendly and efficient. And you can't beat the mid-week rates!

Beautiful room and good breakfast
Element PalmdaleEverything brand new and spotlessly clean. Big room, nice firm mattress. Excellent free breakfast. Quiet at night. Very nice pool area, though I didn't have a chance to hang out there. Everything you could want in a hotel.

Disgusting
Americas Best Value Inn & Suites LancasterThe smell that greeted me when I opened the door was disgusting. I walked 5 feet into the room and came right out. The place was filthy. I asked for a different room and it was hardly in any better shape.
I bailed and drove to another hotel. Avoid avoid avoid!

Very nice, good value
Best Western Plus Yosemite Gateway InnI would stay here again. The rooms are in good repair, clean, and spacious. The staff is friendly and helpful. Forget the free breakfast - it's terrible. Dry sausage, fake eggs, stale muffins. Go to the Denny's a block away. Dinner in the hotel restaurant was decent - about as good as you can expect in these little mountain towns. Be aware that the hotel restaurant closes at 8pm, as does everything else in town. So, if you get back from a long day in Yosemite park you may not be able to find anything to eat.

Helped me out in a difficult situation
Vagabond Inn BishopAlways nice rooms and friendly staff. This time around we rolled in late and got the most beat-up rooms in the place because they were the last available. The door handle to my room broke with me outside and my dog inside. The clerk helped me break down the door, which was very nice of her. I ended up barricading the broken door for the night and sleeping in the beat-up old room. The refunded me for the room and we made it through the night OK.

Clean but old
The TrailHeadCreaky, old place with barely serviceable furniture. It's clean and in good repair but that's about it. Dingy carpet, dim lighting, poor quality mattress and linens. If it wasn't a holiday week and the last minute, I would have found something better.

My go-to in the Eastern Sierra
Historian InnAs always, a great stay. Room was clean and in good repair. Grassy park a block away. Lots of food choices for (human) dinner. Friendly service.

Amazingly noisy at night
Corral Creek LodgeComfortable room and friendly staff. But I've never stayed at a place as noisy as this. The walls and floors are paper-thin. You can hear every rustle in the building. Also, no food anywhere nearby. Bring something to eat or be prepared for a long drive to the nearest restaurant.

Clean room with bad cigarette smell
Extended Stay America Suites Los Angeles Torrance Del Amo CiThis "non-smoking" room had been smoked in so much and for so long that the smell was soaked into everything. And since ashtrays had not been provided, there were cigarette burns on the edges of all the furniture.
The sheets and bathroom were spotlessly clean, though, so they get 2 stars.
