Great for walking

Delaware and Raritan Canal State Park Trail

because this really isn’t a Park by many standards, it is a flat walking trail along the canal. Other people bike and exercise along this trail as well. At times it can be very busy. It is perfect for walking long distance flat surfaces. There are only several locations throughout the walk that you can cross over the canal. For the most part you go a certain distance, turn around, and head back.

Great spot for pets and families!

Cheesequake State Park

This is a state park so be expected to pay during the regular seasonal hours. they charge by the car not the person. There are plenty of trails in several sections of the park. The trails are anywhere from 30 minutes up to two hours. Most trails are very shaded and in the woods. The trails are marked by colors. This park also offers fishing, crabbing and many fields for playing, kite flying , fetch and more. There is also a beach/lake area. The dogs are not allowed on the beach area however, one of the trails walks around the lake and there are several openings where your dog may choose to get wet. I am not 100% sure if the dogs are allowed to swim freely in the middle of the lake, but our dogs have gone up to their necks with no problem or complaint. The park is mainly for hiking. If interested, there are also several campgrounds for rent throughout the season.
