Great spot for train enthusiasts with dogs
Depot Inn and SuitesIf you are a train enthusiast/history buff and are traveling with a dog, this is a fun place to stay. The hallway to the rooms has glass cases filled with railroad memorabilia (photos, maps, posters, railroad and conductor tools, vintage toy train sets etc.). It’s like staying in a museum for a night. The room was very clean and comfortable. The inn is serviced by Amtrak so some guests arrive by train. We didn’t hear any trains going by during our stay but we’re heavy sleepers. It’s about 20 miles north of highway 36 but well worth the detour if you have the time and like railroad history. Plenty of grass area for pet relief too. It was also nice to be supporting a local business rather than a boring corporate hotel chain. Highly recommend.
Very dog friendly
Hampton Inn Christiansburg BlacksburgWe stayed here while looking for a house to rent and it was great. Nice grassy areas in the back for pet relief, the staff clearly likes dogs, and we never felt like the hotel was just tolerating the dog’s presence, they actually welcomed it. Highly recommend. We also saw a number of other doggies around the hotel during our stay. 😁
Small Dog Park(s) on Property
Best Western Plus High Country InnWe’ve stayed here twice and love it. Clean rooms with real wood furniture that is in the Mission Arts & Crafts style. The front parking lot is a bit small and usually full at night because of the hotel and restaurant traffic but the best part about this place is the fenced dog parks—one for small and one for large dogs. They’re kinda small but we have a puppy that’s not quite off-leash ready so the dog park was a perfect place to play fetch in the morning before departing. Highly recommend.
Great, But Bring Earplugs...
Geiser Grand HotelIf you like staying in a historic 19th century hotel, this is worth a night’s stay. High ceilings, nice furniture, comfortable beds, VERY clean rooms, and good room service available. A small park is behind the hotel although you have to walk around the block a bit to enter because of extensive fencing. Very dog friendly establishment but bring earplugs because the building’s heating, cooling, & ventilation system was loud in our room and reverberated through the walls a lot. We had a hard time sleeping because of that but otherwise, a great hotel.
