We're done with LA Quinta forever

La Quinta by Wyndham Salt Lake City Airport

Booked this place based on no pet fee and BringFido reviews. I was slightly apprehensive about recent reviews of smelly rooms. Our room didn't smell but it had about everything else wrong with it. We stayed at one of these in Albuquerque and I overlooked this, but that location was awful too.

Okay, first off they cover all the pet rooms with poorly maintained carpeting. It was really gross. Wall to wall stains and some areas were so saturated that it was mushy underfoot, barf! Walls had chipped paint throughout and untreated damage to the drywall.

Our room was 4 doors down from the side entrance and it had mosquitos that feasted on me all night. We thought the TV was broke until I checked the cables and realized someone unplugged it. My partner's key card stopped working after an hour and it never got within three feet of anything with a magnetic strip. The complimentary toiletries are a joke. The tiniest bottles imaginable that you have to squeeze violently AND wipe it away quickly or the bottle sucks it back up. The gave us no bar soap. Stains on the bathroom surfaces. Whatever maintenance and cleaning crew they hire are committing highway robbery. Aside from changing the sheets and towels and emptying the garbage, nothing else gets done.

The outdoor areas are swarming with mosquitos in the warmer months. I'd say bring bug spray but that effectively gives my endorsement to stay here, which I wouldn't give in a million years. This is Motel 6 quality for twice the price. All the other hotels in the area charge pet fees but I assure you it's worth every penny.

Beautiful hotel and perfect location

Sheraton Grand Chicago Riverwalk

Soooo glad we booked this place. It's right by the riverwalk and isn't too far from the miles of parks along Lake Michigan. The Riverview room we got barely qualified as such but we got more of Lake Michigan and a lit up ferris wheel so I can't complain. The room was so clean. During check-in we were running out of daylight and in a rush to get everything to our room so we get out into the city. Normally the baggage service takes 10-15 minutes (huge hotel, understandable) but one of their clerks jumped to help us out immediately. Overall their treatment of us was stellar. This is not the best hotel to book if your dog has an overactive bladder. There's like 50 floors or something and you have to cross a street to find a place for your dogs to relieve themselves. Here are my reasons for 4/5 instead of a perfect score:
-the aforementioned lack of dog relief areas on the property.
-the self-parking fee of $63 is just outrageous. That's more than 25% the of the room rate and the going rate for valet. How does a nice hotel like this not have valet????
-The closet doors in the room are extremely annoying and will keep sliding open if you don't force them shut.
-They nickel and dime you like crazy. The breakfast was $15-40 depending on what food line you want access to, but I guess that's why the room rate was surprisingly low for the location at only $200/night.

Motel 6 Quality

Deadwood Miners Hotel

Not sure why they call themselves a hotel when it's clearly a motel. Sadly it's not the only false advertising we experienced. First, you can't really book this place through BringFido. The hotel requires YOU to call about dog-friendly room availability. BringFido's concierge couldn't get through their phone system but they picked up for me immediately less than 30 seconds later, which leads me to believe they might be blocking booking companies.

Do NOT book from their webpage either. I had to cancel a King reservation because they don't allow dogs in King bed rooms. This wasn't stated anywhere on their site and I didn't know until the confirmation email came. Okay...so I call their front desk and book a Queen bed. For what it's worth, the young girl on the phone was nice, quick to make the reservation and apply the veteran discount ahead of time. Her phone manners were a bit informal but she sounded new. They ended up not holding the $50 deposit for us, maybe because my partner had the combat vet discount, but it's literally the only bright spot of our stay.

As for the room, ugh. The staged photos on their website are something else. Their pictures look nice but what we got was straight outta Motel 6. There is no chance in hell that was a Queen bed in our room!! They are advertising Queen beds then giving you a Double, that's so messed up. I know this wasn't a booking mistake because they don't even have Double beds listed on their site. It could barely fit the two of us and our dog. We got two tiny lumpy pillows, a scratchy geometric comforter that I have literally seen at several low budget motels, and the carpet had tons of stains. They left us with a nearly empty roll of toilet paper that we didn't notice until late at night (with no spare rolls in the room). The shower curtain reeked of stale body odor and the shower head was caked in mildew. The TV is very small and the channels are 720p...in 2021 lol. The AC unit was mandatory as it was 90 degrees during the day and ours was covered in dust. I'm an asthmatic so it was great choosing tightened breathing over a sweltering room.

This is what I call a NOTEL. Don't tell your friends about it, don't ever stay here. This is the perfect example of a business that does nothing because they know they'll always have tourists. Mountain towns especially are filled with these rat traps. If we paid motel 6 rates, like $50-60/night, I would be far less irritated. $120 for what we just experienced is extremely insulting. Remember that is the ~$25-30 discounted rate because my partner is a combat vet, so it would have been around $150 and I see them charging over $300/night for Fridays and Saturdays. This place is one of the biggest ripoffs I've ever seen.

Fairly clean but noisy

Best Western Plus Wendover Inn

This is one of the cleaner motels in the area but good lord was it noisy. The walls and ceiling are paper thin. We usually request a ground unit because my partner is a disabled combat vet and we like to be in and out quickly the next morning. The noise from running water on the above floor was so loud it freaked out our dog. You will hear every step made by your neighbors. Stay on the top floor if you want a good night's sleep. No microwaves in the room. On the plus side they had a nice veteran discount and the only WiFi I've ever seen that has higher upload than download speeds.

Egregious pet fee, stay away

Residence Inn Springfield Chicopee

Pet fees are non-refundable deposits that gouge clientele for more money. Hotels will already bill you extra if your pet damages something, so what is the point of a pet fee if not to gouge clients for more money? Anything over $15 is bad enough, but $150 for a big dog is literally the most absurd policy I have ever seen. Do not support this hotel.
