Disgusting and unsafe

I didn't know much about Red Roof Inns, but upon arrival I was aware immediately that this was a dirty and rundown motel. I was given a room on the 3rd flr which was a pain as I had a dog. The room was disgusting... the floor was sticky and the overall room smelled of cigarettes. They motel says no smoking allowed, but the amount of people smoking outside the rooms on the balcony surely infiltrates the rooms. I decided to stay just to get a few hours of sleep before hitting the road again, but withing an hour another hotel guest was trying to enter my room. I don't know if he was as much a victim of the hotel as I was, but the fact that he was given a key card that opened the door to my room made me feel completely unsafe and like I was destined to be on Dateline. I grabbed my things and my dog and hightailed it out of the motel. They have been non-responsive in returning my money which figures considering how poorly this place is managed.
