Urban location
Residence Inn by Marriott Memphis DowntownHigh rise building, not too far from museums and nightlife. Dog did fine.

Comfortable
Residence Inn by Marriott Birmingham Downtown at UABGood location, fully equipped kitchen, decent breakfast, dog friendly. Would stay there again. Small gripe: the on-site parking was $16/n but we could park at a meter across the street for $5/day (free overnight).

Lousy Location
Hyatt Place GreensboroThis hotel overlooks an interstate and is surrounded by other hotels and big box stores. The main tourist sites and fun restaurants are downtown, 15 min away, which is especially annoying with a dog. The hotel is a boring box—isn’t Hyatt supposed to be nicer than Hampton Inns? Not here. The hotel is in the midst of a remodel. Unclear if it will make a difference. On the positive side, the staff were very nice and welcoming to us and our dog.
