Meh

Black Canyon Motel

I booked a king bed room and it was spacious. The room is carpeted and the carpet is pretty worn. The “pet relief” area is pretty much non-existent. It is a dry patch of land with old feces and weeds near the busy highway. The bed in my room was pretty comfortable though. I’ve stayed in better places in Montrose with better areas for dogs.

Clean and Comfortable

Quality Inn & Suites Grants

I only stayed for one night in room 321. I found my room to be clean, comfortable, and spacious. It had cable tv channels, fridge (with small freezer section), and a sofa. It was conveniently located near an entrance and exit door, which helped with moving everything back and forth between the car and room. The hotel is by a set of train tracks, but I did not hear anything all night. The only criticism that I have is that there is not a green space for the dog (I understand that it is New Mexico and green grass is not prevalent). There is a dirt area in the back of the hotel that my dog used (be mindful of previous animals’ excrements). There is a Subway across the street from the hotel and an Asian buffet also within walking distance, but not much else in the area by way of sustenance.

Convenient for one night

Stewart Lodge

My pup and I got stuck on I-90 due to snow and accidents. We had to re-route to this hotel. The place is adequate for a one night stay and has plenty of amenities such as breakfast, Wi-Fi, a hot tub (which was closed when I stayed), a pool (which was also closed), fridge (without a freezer section), microwave, full cable channels, and drive up rooms. The furniture in the room is “well used.” It is located across the street from a supermarket and Starbucks. It was hard to discern whether there were green spaces for the dog due to the snow, but my pup was able to find a place to relieve himself. Overall, it was a fortuitous find on such a dreary night.

Adequate for One Night

Econo Lodge Walterboro

The motel is small and located close to I-95. The owners have tried to add personal touches, such as plants and decorations, to make the place feel less like a motel. There is a small patch of grass for animals to use, but it is located by the road. There were no adequate areas to walk the dog. The property does have feral cats wandering around and long-term residents. There are no coffee makers in the room, but the lobby has 24 hour coffee and hot water. I stayed in a king bed room and had a couch. The Golden Retriever that was with me quickly claimed the couch for himself. :-)
