Barely acceptable but inexpensive
Econo Lodge Inn & Suites MadrasWe unexpectedly needed a place late at night on a holiday weekend and it was available, and the price was right. Check-in at 1am was surprisingly easy and perfectly courteous. The sheets and towels were clean but the bedspread had seen better days; ditto the carpet, though it was slightly less worn. The shower rod was barely hanging onto the wall. More to the point, the area for dogs to relieve themselves was bare dirt, no grass - hardly very hospitable. I guess there may have been some renovation going on so maybe I can cut them some slack but basically the place could stand some sprucing up.
Great value
Yellowstone River InnFour bones only because of the price, which was amazing compared to everything else; otherwise I'd give it three. Perfectly adequate for a night - not sure how the other places justify charging twice as much. Carpet worn, beds too soft, but everything was clean and the people were friendly and helpful. We had dogs so we ordered dinner from the restaurant and ate in our room. Expectations were not high, and the burger we got was not very good (ordered medium rare but came well done) but the 12-oz. sirloin steak (also ordered medium rare) was surprisingly delicious. No problem having three small dogs in the room. Bottom line: great deal if you are just passing through Glendive.
Just right
Best Western Bridgeview HotelNothing fancy but comfortable, helpful staff, welcomed our three small dogs with no problems. On-site gift/convenience store came in handy, and pool and full breakfast are added pluses. Would have been nice for staff to have masked up since there is a pandemic going on.
Barely okay
Red Roof Inn PLUS+ University at Buffalo - AmherstFine for dogs but shaky in general. Room not that well built. Beds not well made (sheets not even tucked in). No ice machine where we were told it was. No one in office in morning to answer questions. Fine for sleeping, welcomed pets with no extra charges. The very basics.
