Not good -- and don't believe the "breakfast included"

Best Western Plus Hyde Park Chicago Hotel

This was my second time at a Best Western and if it had been my first, I would not have had a second. The entire hotel smelled like weed but with a strong cloud of air fresheners trying to cover it up. There were numerous car break-ins in the hotel parking lot over previous nights, and no nearby alternative for parking. The person working the front desk was minimally interactive and just a step above rude. The area was not very good. The hotel walls were thin and let in any noise from outside. And finally, DON'T be fooled by their "included breakfast." When I couldn't find the breakfast, I asked the person working at the front desk and, without looking up, she gestured to a table next to the desk and said it was "breakfast." ... It was a table with a few water bottles, scattered apples, some NutriGram bars, and packets of instant oatmeal. That should barely be considered a "snack" table, let alone breakfast. Would not recommend. The room was clean, though.

Did not feel like I was stuck in the dog house

Best Western Roosevelt Place Hotel

The room was clean and smelled fresh. At other hotels I was placed in unappealing rooms in basements or in obviously un-renovated units and I am guessing it is because I came with my cat. This time I felt like I received the same experience as anyone else in the hotel. Additionally, their included breakfast was the best of the few hotels I stayed at during this trip. I will definitely look to stay in this hotel line again.

Loud, old, and disruptive lighting

Comfort Inn Butte City Center I-15 / I-90

This was my first time in a Comfort Inn and I expected better out of the "moderate" level hotel. I was sent to a hotel room on the first floor -- which was actually a garden level so half of the level is below ground. I had to pass through two heavy fire doors and this ended up taking me from the relatively nice main hotel lobby and hallway area into what seemed like the ugly, unpleasant, dark, and forgotten wing that maybe they use for pet friendly rooms? I am not sure but it was disappointing. The curtains are fixed into place so it is impossible to close them all the way, meaning anyone walking past on the sidewalk and look into the room at any point. Additionally, the parking street lamps glow directly into the room, so it looked like a search-and-rescue-light was shining into my room (and face) all night.

I also heard a lot of noise throughout the night from the hallway and the shared walls, so it seems that the walls are thin. And at one point early in the morning it sounded like an alarm was going off but I think it was my neighbor's toilet. Breakfast was included but was mostly prepackaged and processed food. There was a woman working the breakfast room, though, who was very friendly and went out of her way to make sure everyone got enough to eat and knew the available options. I did not give it only one bone because the room did not smell, nor was the carpet wet, and the bed sheets seemed clean.
