A nice place for large dogs
Hotel Kitsmiller on MainWe picked Hotel Kitsmiller because they accept large dogs and have no problem with you leaving your dog in the room unattended. The price was reasonable in what has become a trendy, tourist destination. The manager called to let me know our room was ready, and he offered to help us with local sights, wineries, restaurant recommendations. For pickier folks, just know this is an older motor inn (built in the 1930s) that has been updated as best as possible. It’s quirky, but we found it charming in its own way. We stayed an extra day and enjoyed it.
Find another place to stay
La Quinta by Wyndham Round Rock NorthVery disappointed in this La Quinta. The only reason it gets one bone is the bed was comfortable. For starters, the second floor ice machine is broken and the elevator is out of order. When reported to the young lady at the front desk (who was busy visiting with her friends watching TV in the lobby), she just shrugged and said she’d tell the manager. There was black mold in the window sill, tears in the blackout curtains. One of the chairs was torn. Worst of all, we moved the recliner closer to the TV, and discovered all kinds of old food on the floor under the chair. Obviously, the chair hadn’t been moved for cleaning in God knows how long. Overall, this is a badly maintained place. Go somewhere else.
Clean and front desk friendly
Red Roof Inn Amarillo WestWe stayed here for one night on our road trip. It was fine for us. Clean, quiet, and a ground floor room. The gentleman who checked me in was very friendly and professional. The area to walk our dog was large and well maintained. The hotel is near several restaurants. For pickier folks, just know our pup found a sock that wasn’t ours. Even though there are signs that announce all rooms are smoke-free, the room reeked of smoke. And I had to go get coffee pods (there were two of us, two cups, and one coffee pod). For us, we would stay there again.
