The Fort De Soto Park has large fenced areas for both large and small dogs, including dog showers for those hot days. Dogs are allowed anywhere in the park on a six-foot leash, except on any beach. The Paw Playground area is the exception -- dogs are allowed on the beach, and they are allowed off leash on that area of beach. They can also run free inside the fenced areas. On a hot summer day, you can cool off your dog by hosing him down, and drinking water is available too. The park also has plenty for two-legged visitors too -- an old Spanish fort to explore, gorgeous parks, overnight camping with plenty of amenities, and picnic areas. The north beach was named "America's #1 beach" in 2008 & 2009 by Trip Advisor.

Doggie ‘Clean Up Mitts’ are provided. Restrooms are available. There is also some outdoor night lighting. With a few trails to choose from, Robinson Preserve is a lovely nature walk bordering the Manatee River and Perico Bayou. The Preserve provides waste bags, water fountains, and hoses at the parking lot, but not within the park. Do take water for your pups - the trails can get hot and there isn't much shade. Make sure to check out the observation tower, which provides clear views to Tampa Bay.

Dunedin Florida is one of the most dog friendly towns you will ever want to visit with your furry friends. As you stroll through the downtown area, many cafes and bars have water bowls for Fido sitting on the patios. There is a huge mural painted on several store fronts depicting dogs that have belonged to folks living or vacationing in Dunedin. You can walk your dog along the Pinellas trail for miles and miles. There is a dog friendly beach on Honeymoon Island too. Even though the dogs on that beach have to be leashed, it is still a fun place to take them. The 555+ mobile home park where I have a winter home is one of the best and most dog friendly parks in the area. It is called Grand Bay Mobile Home Park. I walk out my back door and I am on the walking trail within minutes. The little town of Palm Harbor is also very dog friendly.

Dogs must be under voice control at all times. Dog feces must be picked up and disposed of by the owner. Owners must immediately fill in any holes dug by their dogs. Feeding the squirrels is prohibited inside the dog park. People food is prohibited inside the dog park. Alcoholic consumption is prohibited in County parks. The small dog area is recommended for small, fragile, or elderly canine visitors. Children may accompany the family pet if they are under the direct supervision of an adult. In all cases, owners are responsible for the actions of their dogs. Canine and human visitors enter at their own risk. Manatee County cannot be responsible for injuries to visiting dogs, their owners, or others using the park. All special events should be requested through the Parks and Recreation Department. NO park personnel on duty in the dog park.

Great care was given to the restoration of the land’s natural habitat during the park’s development. One key feature is a wetlands section on the western side of the park which has been restored with 100 percent native plants. The park is home to fox squirrels, numerous bird species, gopher tortoises and water turtles. Amenities: In keeping with the tradition of the land’s former use, much of the park’s amenities were built with a citrus grove theme. These include: 6 picnic shelters - reserve shelters online 3 restrooms playground dog park - follow dog park rules A paved 12-foot wide recreation trail Numerous shell paths for walking and enjoying nature 2,000 feet of boardwalks over restored wetlands Catch and release fishing permitted from designated areas only, no bank fishing allowed. 3 vending stations History: The 163-acre park originally belonged to the Taylor family, one of the original pioneer families in Pinellas County. The Taylor's used the property for cattle grazing and as a citrus grove. The park comprises two parcels the county purchased in 1998 and 2006. All dogs must be leashed when entering and exiting the park. Park closes at dusk. Patrons use the dog park at their own risk. Handlers are liable for any injury or damage caused by their dog (s). Handlers are limited to 3 dogs. Dogs shall be licensed and vaccinated with a tag on their collar at all times. Dogs in heat are prohibited. Handler must be 16 years of age or older. Children under 12 are not permitted without a responsible adult. Handler must control their dog and attend to it at all times. Handler must carry a leash with them at all times while in the park. Handler is responsible for picking up and disposing of their dog's waste in designated receptacles. No dogs under 4 months of age. Check with your veterinarian before introducing a new puppy to the dog park. No aggressive dogs. Handlers must stop their dogs from digging and are responsible for filling any holes their dog makes. No excessive barking. No bathing of dogs within the park. No food or smoking within the fenced area. Note to Patrons: Beware of holes dug by dogs. Users of this facility do so at their own risk. Do not go bare foot in the dog park. Be aware of diseases that can be transmitted from dog-to-dog in a dog park and have your dog vaccinated BEFORE coming to the park to play. Example: Kennel cough, ring worm, etc.
