Rattlesnake Saloon

Fido may not want to live under a rock, but dining under one is sure to be a cool experience. At Rattlesnake Saloon in the northwest corner of Alabama, he can do just that. Bring your rootin’ tootin’ Retriever along for a cowboy lunch or dinner at this cave-like restaurant and saloon under a large rock overhang. Canines are welcome to join you at outdoor tables where you can order items like burgers, barbecue and salads, and alcoholic drinks after 5 p.m., and hear the unique acoustics of live music as it echoes beneath the rock. Hitching posts are also available outside the saloon if you’re traveling with a horse.

A true cowboy meal should be followed by a true cowboy stay. Find a primitive spot to pitch a tent at Seven Springs Lodge Campground, which is also home to Rattlesnake Saloon, and gaze up at the night sky. There are also 100 RV and camper sites if you prefer a little more luxury. Horse stalls are available for equine family members and there are trails on over 20,000 acres you’re welcome to explore with Fido during your stay.

At Agnes Lake Tea House in Banff, AB, tasty lunch and refreshing drinks are your reward for trekking just over two miles to get there. Fido will be excited to join you on the journey which starts at Lake Louise and takes you 1,300 feet in elevation to a small log building on the shores of Lake Agnes. The teahouse has no electricity and water is pumped from the lake and boiled. The staff live onsite or make the trek each day. After you and your pup have reached the restaurant, find a table on the deck or relax at a spot overlooking the lake and order sandwiches, soup, fresh-baked bread and desserts. Hot and cold drinks are also available to quench your thirst before you hike back down or continue another three miles to The Plain of Six Glaciers Teahouse.

For an unforgettable visit to Banff, book a room at The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise and be within steps of the beautiful turquoise glacial lake and spend time exploring the rest of the dog-friendly area.

Each night at Pelletier's Restaurant & Fish Boil, Fido is welcome to join you for an unforgettable dining experience. The Door County Fish Boil is a local tradition that’s fun for the whole family, including your pup. The meal begins with a dramatic presentation of the cooking process over a large open fire. The Master Boiler will share facts and history with the crowd before the fire is lit and the cooking begins. Once the fish is boiled to perfection, kerosene is added to the fire to create a burst of flames and an overflow from the kettle. Then it’s time to find your seat and get ready to dine. The meal features Lake Michigan whitefish steaks, boiled baby red potatoes and homemade cole slaw along with a slice of Door County Cherry Pie. Call ahead for fish boil reservations and arrive 40 minutes early to view the spectacle.

After you and your pooch get your bellies full, head to O’Meara’s Cottage Loft for a good night’s rest. Fido will be greeted with dog treats and pet dishes to use during his stay. You can also take advantage of nearby dog-friendly attractions like Peninsula State Park and the Skyway Drive-In Theater.
