Great stay - super dog-friendly
La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Brunswick/Golden IslesI think this hotel has had some upgrades done. We had a great, quiet room. The walking area, grass, and poop stations were fantastic. It would have been helpful to have ice/water machine on each floor- we only saw it off the lobby. Not a big deal. We took advantage of the fire-pit patio by the pool to relax a bit from a day of long travels. Our medium-size dog was quite popular there- a good boy that was good with everything!
As a last resort
Baymont by Wyndham SanteeWe had to stop along a road trip and this place was convenient. Check-in was fine. There were some seedy characters hanging at the 2nd floor railing when we arrived, near our door, but that seemed to disappear and there was no issue. All quiet and we slept which was needed. Except for the bed that was an old spring-type that squeaked like crazy every time I moved, which caused our dog some alarm. Our dog also had trouble with the stairs which were wet from rain; he slipped and had to be held up by his leash to keep from falling down the steps. There was no special area for dogs, just a few grassy spots. The shower plumbing was loose. Finally, we saw a feral cat that was unafraid; I'm just not a fan of feral cats.
My dog has better manners
Hyatt Place Virginia Beach OceanfrontThis Hyatt Place has taken the space of Belvedere, so it's new. Our dog was treated fine. Nothing special. But our dog was no fan of the fighter jets that flew over quite often. I like that they only do housekeeping service if requested. The breakfast buffet is good, but got crowded for a summer weekday during covid - so we weren't comfortable with that scene. I went back to the breakfast area to get a quick self-service, take-away coffee and was aggressively harassed by a couple because I was wearing a mask. Sad! I guess that's not the hotel's fault, but most of the guests didn't believe in covid.
We only saw 1 employee wearing a mask. I'm writing this as another variant is surging. We stayed outside most of the time; the room was very comfortable when we came in hot & sandy. The pool is the small Belvedere pool and always packed. The work staff seemed as though they never worked in the hospitality or service industry before. But the cleaning folks were awesome. We just weren't comfortable with the lack of masking, tight elevator rides, and bully-type guests. So unsure if we'd go back.
Just okay
Quality Inn & Suites Civic CenterWe arrived late and left early, so really, we just wanted to clean up and sleep. The bathroom wasn't very clean. The shower/tub had long, dark hair all over it. And the bathroom floor needed a vacuum (more hair) and a mop. My husband tried to get all the hair out but I was having none of it. We all slept fine. I mentioned the bathroom issue to the nice lady at the desk on our way out.
Nice Hotel - bit of a Hike to Dog Park
Iberostar 70 Park AvenueGreat hotel, nice people, good location. We walked to Madison Park where the dog park there was excellent. Well-behaved people & dogs! A bit of a hike when cold & rainy. Our dog is not accustomed to city noise, but he adores other dogs and dog parks. So once we were at the park- everyone was happy. The room was quiet and comfy, also making everyone happy!
