Eclectic Pooch Friendly Hotel
Callahan's Mountain LodgeLocated at 4,000 feet on a very hot day, Callahan’s was 10 degrees cooler than Ashland-proper which made outdoor dining tolerable. The accommodations were a little rustic but served our needs fine as did the restaurant with its dozen menu items and a full bar. Definitely worth staying at if you are traveling Route 5.
On The River With Great Views and Good Food
River's EdgeRiver’s Edge was a great find on a hot day while traveling with our pooch. It is located on the south side of the river so the building blocked most of the sun during our lunch. They have a dog menu with half a dozen items in addition to the human menu.
Average Hotel
Quality Inn & Suites ElkoThe 2 Queen room is very small. In general, everything was clean. While masks are required, we saw some cleaning staff not wearing them
Great Location and nice size room
Yosemite View LodgeThe reviews for the Yosemite View lodge are mixed and probably rightly so but given this is pretty much the only hotel accommodations anywhere near the Park which allow pets, options are limited.
Our experience was very nice with no issues. We were there off season (late January). The room, a King river view, was much larger than we expected with a couch and a kitchenette. Our 38 lb mix (Shepherd, Chou, Chihuahua and who knows what else) enjoyed the grounds and romping in the snow. The lodge allows one to leave their pet unattended in the room which was nice as it allowed us to eat dinner in the restaurant (one night in the main restaurant - average food at best and one night in the Pizzeria which wasn't bad) without worrying about our pet in the car in freezing temperatures.
The hotel was probably 30% full on Saturday night and maybe half that the Friday and Sunday nights of our stay so probably aided our experience as they don't seem staffed to handle 336 units.
All in all, we will definitely stay at the Yosemite View Lodge the next time we visit Yosemite and take our dog.
