The Best Dog Friendly Motel on Route 66
Roadrunner LodgeAll the 5-Bone Reviews aren't hype, this is where you want to stay in Tucumcari if you are traveling with your dog. I'm not sure if Tucumcari is ever a destination location, but it is a convenient stopping point along I-40 (and on the original Route 66). The motel is done up in a mid-century modern style, being retro without being overly kitschy. The owner has three dogs himself and there is a very green grassy area for your dog to play/relieve themselves, including a fenced-off area and a shade cloth. In the room were an embroidered doggie towel (we used it to put her water bowl on), a small gift bag of dog treats, and information about nearby dog-friendly restaurants. The WiFi signal was pretty weak in the room and there was no mini-fridge, but I didn't need to do any work and we had an ice chest in our car, so those things weren't a big deal. We will definitely stay here again the next time we stop in Tucumcari.
Good value
Quality Inn I-70 at WanamakerThis is not the fanciest Quality Inn, but certainly clean, affordable and dog friendly. We just needed a place to stay for the night while driving cross country. The room was decent sized, had middle sized refrigerator and there were lots of dining options nearby, including a Mexican restaurant across the street that has a dog friendly patio.
A Wonderful Getaway
Elktrace Bed & BreakfastWe loved staying at Elktrace B&B, Evelyn was so welcoming not only to us but to our Beatrice as well. They owners have two dogs, Bear and Schatzie, both of whom were very friendly to our Bea. The lodge is at the end of a two mile gravel road which made it remote enough that we felt we were away from it all, but close enough to get into Pagosa Springs proper with just a short drive. Lots of places to walk your dog and enjoy this beautiful part of Colorado.
Great value
Village Inn SalinaDefinitely not the fanciest place we have ever stayed, but the room was clean, there was a large grassy area for the dog to use, and we were able to get in and out pretty easily. If you are looking for a reasonably priced place to say while passing through Salina, this is worth it.
Fantastic Experience
Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Beatrice an IHG HotelOn a road trip across the country we needed a place to stop for one night. The check-in process was easy, the room was nice, and bringing the dog along was no big deal. There was no special dog entrance, you just bring them right along with you, nobody made a big deal about it, it was just as it should be.
