I am a freelance grant writer who move around the country living in Airbnbs for 1-3 months at a time with my senior dog Harley. Harley is a rescue lab/pit mix with such severe separation anxiety that she can't be without a human. If left alone, she'll bust through the wall like the Kool-Aid man! Nevertheless, she's a giant sweetheart, and we're always looking for good places to walk, smell new things, and eat.

Quiet stay in a quirky town
Hotel NevadaMy senior dog and I stopped overnight while driving between Idaho and Arizona. The town of Ely is a historic, quirky little casino town. The outside of the hotel is a spectacular mix of serious history and kitsch. There's a walk of fame that shows all the famous guests who've stayed before you. I was worried when we entered the lobby. It was loud and smoky. However, our room on the third floor was perfectly quiet and smoke-free.
The rooms are small and there are few outlets, but I actually prefer them to most modern hotels. The bed was ultra comfy, breakfast (from the on-site Dennys) was a nice touch, and so was the free margarita voucher. The Chinese restaurant next door even let me bring my dog with me to pick up my dinner. The front desk ladies were super friendly, as were all the housekeeping staff members my dog had to say hello to. We'd definitely visit again!
Adorable place
Homestead Inn and SuitesI stayed here with my senior dog for just one night while passing through, but I wish I'd had longer here! The hotel itself is adorable, and the staff was exceptionally friendly. The rooms are nice and spacious, so I wasn't tripping over my pup the whole time, and there are grassy areas around the hotel for potty breaks. The hotel is in a walkable area and right next to a couple fast food restaurant, plus a short walk to the little town. Will totally stay again any time I come through.
Great location
Best Western Lee's Motor InnI've not always had great experiences with 'dog-friendly' hotels. Sometimes they have rules like 'no dogs on the furniture' which, to me, means not dog friendly. This place had no such silly rules that I saw. It's extremely well located right on the river, with access to a great trail for walking Fido. The room was spacious and very comfy, with none of the strong 'pet friendly hotel' odors. My senior pup and I had a great stay.
No pets on furniture
Quality Inn NewnanIt drives me crazy when hotels say "pet friendly" then they charge an extra fee for them and say 'no pets on furniture.' That's not dog friendly OR people friendly, because now we have to spend our whole stay trying to keep our dogs on the floor. In theory, y'all wash the linens, so this is an arbitrary rule and an easy way to try and charge people even more.
Awkward that a dogs aren't allowed at the lighthouse
Owls Head State ParkI had read online that this park was dog friendly, so I brought my pup with me. Turns out they're only allowed in the parking area. That's kind of awkward.
Happily spoiled my pup!
Clan MacLaren'sThis is a cute cafe with great food and a nice outdoor seating area where you can sit with your pet. Like most pet-friendly restaurants, there is the issue that if it's just you and your dog, you'd have to take the dog inside to order. (I was lucky that a couple sitting outside offered to hold her leash for a minute while I went in.) That aside, this place was super awesome. Pupper got a nice fresh bowl of water and the staff even fed her some deli meat and cheese, which she loved. She loved the pettings and attention just as much, and I was very happy with my salad and sandwich. Would visit again!
Nice to be able to bring my pup book browsing!
Sherman's Maine Coast Book Shop and CafeI have a very high energy senior dog, and on a rainy day she got antsy. I brought her to the bookstore so she could get her socialization and I could stay out of the rain. Great choice! This is a super cute store and the staff were really friendly and fed my pup a treat. Lots of people stopped to pet her while perusing books. Dogs are not allowed on the cafe side, just the book side fyi.
Super friendly
Sprague's LobsterMy senior dog and I took a stroll around here just to check out the little shops in the area. The staff at Spragues played with her and even tried to feed her fresh lobster. (Turns out my dog has no taste! She left it for the seagulls.) Ended up chatting for a long time about dogs. Would definitely come back!
What a treat for me and my pup!
Buffalo Trace DistilleryI'm always looking for new places to walk my senior dog near wherever we're living at the time, and I'd heard Buffalo Trace was dog friendly. Wow, are they ever! Harley and I walked all over the grounds and in the buildings, and she was allowed everywhere - even the gift shop. There are some really beautiful gardens to explore too, which I wasn't expecting. Even better, every staff member and employee we encountered stopped to pet her. Some even gave her treats. It was great to see the distillery all decked out for for the holidays, and I don't think my dog or I will ever forget that heavenly smell that permeates the whole place. Highly recommended!
My pup Harley's favorite!
Sonka Irish PubWhen my senior dog Harley and I lived in Terre Haute, this was our favorite place to eat. All the staff remembered her whenever we visited and would bring treats or bacon. She and I both adore the homemade chips. Aside from the ultra dog-friendly staff, this place is great because they let you have your dog inside, while most places only let you have your dog at outdoor seating, which makes eating in cold weather no fun. Overall, great food, good trivia night, good drink selection, amazing staff. We've moved on from Terre Haute, but we sure do miss Sonkas!
Loved being able to bring my pup for this incredible experience!
Kentucky Horse ParkI just moved to Lexington for the month (I travel around the country working remotely) and was in need of something fun to do for my birthday, but I don't have a pet sitter yet. I checked out Bring Fido and saw the Horse Park. I'm not into horse racing, but I do love animals and I love walking with with senior pup Harley, so we gave it a go. I'm so glad we did! We spent an hour in the morning just walking the grounds, then in the afternoon we did the stall-side meet and greets where you get to meet the horses. The staff was super friendly to my pup, and she got to be up close and personal with famous horses. This place definitely exceeded my expectations.
