This off-leash beach in City of Santa Barbara is the beach that runs below the Douglas Family Preserve -- it begins east of the slough at Arroyo Burro Beach (the locals call it Hendry's Beach), and stretches almost to the steps at Mesa Lane. The fallen eucalyptus trees are considered the eastern boundary. From the parking lot at Arroyo Burro, walk to the beach, turn left, and cross the slough -- this will bring you to the off-leash legal area. Please be sure your dog is leashed in the parking lot and on the beach until you cross the slough.

Douglas Family Preserve

Douglas Family Preserve is one of two off-leash dog parks in Santa Barbara, CA. This 70-acre property features hiking trails, as well as a beach where your dog can run leash free. Dog owners should bring poop bags and fresh water for their pups.

From the East to the West side of the campus there is a trail that runs along the cliff sporting a beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean, harbor and beaches. On the West side of the campus there is a grassy area where a whole pack of well socialized dogs and friendly owners meet every Saturday morning and many weekday evenings. If you are visiting SB and staying at any of the pet-friendly hotels in West Beach you simply cross Castillo St. , walk through the park and towards the road that winds up the hill toward City College (on the left of the tennis courts), stay to the left and look for the gardens that hug the cliffs, enjoy that little walk and then (unfortunately) you have to walk past the stadiums in the parking lot to get to the pedestrian bridge that will take you to the West Campus, the bridge opens up to a big grassy area with path on the left and (typically) lots of friendly playful doggies. Horses and dogs are allowed on this beautiful beach about 5 minutes south of Santa Barbara. Porpoises and seals dance in the surf, and it's never crowded. Parking is available at both ends of the beach.

Rincon Park (County of Santa Barbara)

Rincon Park (County of Santa Barbara) is a park on top of the bluffs, with picnic ramadas and a hiking trail. There is also another trail, and also a separate set of stairs which lead down to the beach. Dogs are allowed on the beach North of Rincon Creek. Your pet is welcome to join you at this fun park, as long as they remain on-leash. Dogs are not allowed on the beach South of Rincon Creek (Ventura County).

Refugio State Beach to El Capitan State Beach Trail

This is an easy, 5.4 mile hike that will take about 2 hours to complete with Fido. Dogs are not allowed on the beach in this area, but the entire paved stretch between El Capitan and Refugio Beaches is fair game. The path is open to bikers, walkers, and joggers and provides a spectacular view of the Ocean. Leash regulations do apply.
