July is here, which means tails and tongues are set to wag in the sun across the country. But finding the right place for Fido to spend his precious free time and celebrate the dog days of summer is not going to be easy thanks to all the awesome pet-friendly openings this month.

Black Lab Cafe
Dedicated to loveable Labradors Daisy and Lola, Black Lab Cafe in New York’s Upper West Side is sure to become one of the hippest hangouts for hounds in The Big Apple. Local canines may already be familiar with the dog-loving owner’s other business, Clean Bowl Club NYC, which hand-delivers freshly prepared meals to New York’s pups. Fido can sample one of their gourmet meals from the canine menu at Black Lab Cafe, while owners enjoy coffee and snacks. The cafe is fitted with a double door entry system and a glass partition to separate the food ordering section from the seating area, allowing pups to keep an eye on owners during ordering.
Gene Leahy Mall at The RiverFront
Originally constructed in 1977, Gene Leahy Mall was falling into disrepair. As the city surrounding it grew, the community space was left behind. Now, the completely transformed public park is open to the people of Omaha and visitors once more. Connecting the city to the adjacent Missouri River, Gene Leahy Mall at The RiverFront now features an event lawn and performance pavilion, a sculpture garden, a children’s play area, an interactive water feature and, most importantly, a brand new dog park. Gene Leahy Mall at The RiverFront is the first of three public parks that are being rejuvenated in Omaha by The RiverFront project.
Soak up the atmosphere of the community hangout, then spend the night at EVEN Hotels Omaha Downtown. Pet-friendly rooms are equipped with yoga equipment so you and your pooch can practice downward dog together in privacy.
Mak Pack Dog Training and Boarding
Fido’s trips to the outdoor dog park aren't always possible in Arizona during the summer months, but Mak Pack Dog Training and Boarding offers safe play even on the hottest days. Located thirty minutes from Phoenix, Mak Pack’s second location provides doggy daycare, grooming, boarding, dog wash stations and a variety of training options for local dog owners to take advantage of, but the indoor dog park is the real highlight. This fully air-conditioned facility has different sections for small and large dogs, and is staffed with trained attendants to make sure every pup is having fun. Still panting, Fido? The facility has plans to open an indoor pool where he can cool off soon.
After a day of play, lounge with your Labrador at Ocotillo Haven in Chandler. This luxurious pet-friendly Airbnb has hardwood floors throughout for easy cleanup, a fenced backyard and an inviting pool.
Dirty Dog Taphaus
Dirty Dog Taphaus is New Glarus’ first self-pour taproom. Pull your own pints at this aptly-named hangout that welcomes dogs on the large patio. Visitors use a wristband to access 30 different taps including a section devoted to nearby New Glarus Brewing, local craft beers, seltzers and ciders. Pub grub like brats and pretzels are available, but guests are also free to bring food from local eateries. Before you know it, Fido will be asking you to return and “paw” another one.
For an unforgettable farm stay nearby, book a few nights for the whole pack at New Glarus Farm House. Surrounded by fields and trails, there’s lots to see and do before a celebratory drink at Dirty Dog.
Historically Hoppy Brewing Company
Historically Hoppy Brewing Company is Jacksonville’s newest brewery. Serving up six beers on tap that range from light and crisp lagers to hoppy IPAs, there’s a beer for all tastes on draft here. For those who don’t like hops, sip on a craft root beer or cold brew instead. Pups can enjoy refreshment at the communal canine water bowl and plans for spent-grain treats are in the works. Don’t forget to pick up a Jax Ale Trail Brewery Passport from the bar, check off Historically Hoppy and see how many more local breweries you and your pooch can frequent while you’re in town.
Put your paws up for the night just a few blocks away at this charming second floor rental in the historic Springfield neighborhood
The Shed BBQ
Exporting expertise from the original Ocean Springs location, The Shed BBQ is now serving up award-winning BBQ to Baton Rouge, too. This mouthwatering restaurant invites cookout kings and queens to sample slow-cooked smoked meats like baby back ribs and brisket, sandwiches stuffed with pulled chicken or sausage, and traditional sides, including potato salad and collard greens. Enjoy it all on one of the largest outdoor patio spaces in town. Fido can lick your plates clean, then splash and dash in the lake at the nearby Burbank Dog Park.
Big meals require big naps. Sleep off your BBQ excesses at Residence by Marriott Baton Rouge Siegen Lane. Before bedtime, Fido can walk around the grassy relief area.
Fur Haven Dog Park
When Mayor Murfee, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, was re-elected to office, his aim was to provide a space for fellow canine residents to enjoy. He may have been replaced as mayor by a goat named Elsa this time around, but he left a four-legged legacy behind. As Head of the Dog Park Committee, Murfee and his owner Linda Barker helped raise enough money to make Fur Haven Dog Park in Fair Haven a reality. Divided into separate sections for small and large dogs, the fenced grassy space features benches and tunnel ramp structures for dogs to play on.
If you like your vacations like you like your drinks, book a stay at On the Rocks. Here, dock diving dogs can take a refreshing plunge into the water after meeting local mutts at Fur Haven Dog Park.
