New Dog Parks and Pet-Friendly Attractions: May

Posted by Delaney Lindquist

Welcome in the summer season with your furry friend by your side! Whether you want to let Fido off leash in a 70-acre dog park on North Carolina’s Catawba River or cuddle with your pup while you sample wines at a vineyard along the Texas wine trail, there are many new places to enjoy quality time with your dog across the country this May.

There is a new way for your pup to join the fun at the U.S. National Whitewater Center in Charlotte, NC! Their latest addition, Whitewater Off Leash, is a fenced, 70-acre area dedicated to dogs. Fido can play on the pebble beach, swim in the lake, jump off the dock, play fetch in the open area and more. There’s even a 1.5-mile trail within the new off-leash area, where you can run, hike or take a leisurely stroll with your furry friend. The space also includes The Barley House, a retail store and food and beverage outlet for both human and canine refreshments.

After a long day of playing, wind down at Hampton Inn Belmont at Montcross in nearby Belmont, NC. If you need to replenish all the calories you’ve burned, head down the road to Primal Brewery Belmont, where you can eat with Fido on the outdoor patio.

Ring in the summer season with your pup at Coordinates Vineyards’ newly opened location in Hye, TX. Fido can join you at a table on their large outdoor lawn with views of the wine trail and a 100-year-old farmhouse-turned-tasting room. Dogs are also welcome at tables on the farmhouse porch. Sip on one of their award-winning red, white and sparkling wines while you spend time with your furry friend and listen to live music.

After your day at the vineyard, grab a bite to eat at Pecan Street Brewing in the nearby town of Johnson City, TX. End your night at Best Western Johnson City Inn, where Fido can enjoy the dedicated pet relief area.

Northeasterners have a new dog park for furry friends to enjoy! York Dog Park in York, ME opened its gates in April. This park, which was built and funded by the non-profit Friends of York Dog Park, features separate sections for small and large dogs and offers plenty of grass, shade trees and hills for the perfect day of play. Fido will love blowing off some steam with his friends in this fenced area.

Spend the night nearby at Sea Latch Inn, where you and your pup can enjoy waterfront views of the Atlantic Ocean.

Fido can get his energy out on the agility courses or take a nap in one of the comfortable lounging spaces.
