Why deck the halls with holly, lights and mistletoe when somebody else can do it for you? Set off on an unforgettable Christmas story with your favorite little helper this season.

Once upon a time, there was a rustic retreat that celebrated the holidays all year long. One of Josselyn’s Getaway Log Cabins in Jefferson, NH, the Christmas Cabin is decorated with yuletide spirit. The rental also has a private balcony and log railings for you and your pooch to watch Santa take off in his sleigh after delivering his gifts (or lumps of coal). During the day, try something new at Muddy Paw Sled Dog Kennel. You can take part in a variety of snowy activities including dog sledding, skijoring, bike-joring and scooter-joring, and receive training from “bone-ified” Iditarod veterans.

The Christmas Cabin accepts pets for an additional fee of $35 per pet, per stay. Nightly rates start at $245.

Play the roles of Hansel and Grrrretal with a stay at A Fairy-tale Gingerbread House at Isis Oasis Retreat Center in Sonoma Wine Country. This unique cob hut has thick walls to keep occupants warm in winter, and tree branches that wrap around it to transport you to a fairytale forest land of mystery. Twinkling LED lights and a stained glass window complete the scene. Wander around the 9-acre property with your dog, explore the community garden, and meditate at any of the numerous shrines and altars throughout the property. The center is also home to many rescue animals, including exotic birds, reptiles and cats, so keep Fido on a leash during your stay.

A Fairy-tale Gingerbread House welcomes pets for no additional fee. Nightly rates start at $95.

Visitors are reminded that Marissa, a sociable calico cat, is another regular guest in the cabin.

Smaller dogs can spend their vacation surrounded by yuletide celebration at a working Christmas tree farm in North Carolina. The story of Boyd Mountain Cabins began over a century ago when the Boyd family first started growing Christmas trees for the people of Waynesville. Located between the Great Smoky and Blue Ridge Mountains, Boyd Mountain Christmas Tree Farm produces quality trees to this day and welcomes dogs to help sniff out the finest fir for their owners. In 1989, a storage building was converted into an authentic log cabin for guests to stay overnight. There are now seven different vacation rentals on the property, all of which are happy to host your hound.

Boyd Mountain Cabins accepts pets for an additional fee of $20 per pet, per night. Nightly rates start at $200.

Nestled in the middle of thousands of Christmas trees, this rural getaway is perfect for Christmas addicts to get their fix long after Santa has returned to his workshop. The surrounding area is an inviting setting for country strolls, but don’t forget to pick up after your pooch. Christmas in July, anyone?

Pets are welcome for no additional fee at The Christmas Cabin. Nightly rates start at $135.
