Guests traveling with pets must call (877) 411-3436 prior to booking to verify availability of a pet-friendly room or risk not being able to check in with a pet and/or incurring any associated cancellation penalties. Pets cannot be left unattended in rooms.

Barksdale House Inn allows pets of any size for a fee of $20 per pet, per night.

A visit to James Island County Park is a great way to spend an afternoon in Charleston with your pup. Said to be the best dog park in Charleston, this park features a dog beach, four acres of open grassy space, a cleaning station, fenced play area for small dogs, and waste stations.

Beach at Sullivans Island

Off-leash dogs are welcome to enjoy the beautiful beach on Sullivan's Island from 5:00 am to 10:00 am and leashed dogs are welcome on the beach from 6:00 pm to 5:00 am. Dogs are not permitted on the beach between 10:00 am and 6:00 pm. All dogs on Sullivan Island, including day visitors and vacation renters, must have a town-issued dog permit to visit the island, including the beach. Town Hall (located at 2050-B Middle Street) issues annual permits for $35 per dog. Completed applications and proof of valid rabies vaccination are required for permit.

West Ashley Greenway

The West Ashley Greenway is one of 1600 rail-trails supported by Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, a nonprofit organization that is working to create a nationwide network of trails from former rail lines and connecting corridors. Previously an unused railroad corridor, this "rail-trail" is now a great place to walk Fido in Charleston! The map below shows a parking area with convenient access to the West Ashley Greenway. Bring Fido along on an Old Charleston Ghost Tour! This walking tour starts in Washington Park and lasts about 90 minutes. You and your pooch may even hear a story about a ghost dog that roams the streets of Charleston.

First time playing in water
