James Island County Park

A visit to James Island County Park is a great way to spend an afternoon in Charleston with your pup. Said to be the best dog park in Charleston, this park features a dog beach, four acres of open grassy space, a cleaning station, fenced play area for small dogs, and waste stations.

Myrtle Beach (Dogs on Beach Policy)

Most public beaches in the Myrtle Beach area are pet friendly during early morning hours or during late evenings year-round. From May 1 through Labor Day, dogs are allowed on the beach only before 10 am and after 5 pm. Dogs and bicycles are allowed on the boardwalk only between 5am to 10am from May 1 through Labor Day. From the day after Labor Day to April 30 each year, dogs are allowed on the beach at any time of day. At all times when dogs are allowed on the beach, they must be on a leash that is seven feet or shorter, and dog owners must pick up and properly dispose of the droppings.

West Ashley Greenway

The West Ashley Greenway is one of 1600 rail-trails supported by Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, a nonprofit organization that is working to create a nationwide network of trails from former rail lines and connecting corridors. Previously an unused railroad corridor, this "rail-trail" is now a great place to walk Fido in Charleston! The map below shows a parking area with convenient access to the West Ashley Greenway. Barefoot Landing

Located along the Intracoastal Waterway, Barefoot Landing naturally combines beauty and nature with fun and excitement for the entire family. Migratory waterfowl, exotic fish and wildlife make Barefoot Landing their home. A stroll along the boardwalk or the dock is reminiscent of an old fishing village. As gentle breezes blow across the 27-acre lake, the temptation to sit and relax is overwhelming. Pets are most welcome on a leash. Shopping, dining, and entertainment in a natural atmosphere is the essence of Barefoot Landing. Several restaurants encourage patrons to dine with their pets in outside seating areas. And don't forget to visit the Bone Appetit Pet Bakery for some fresh home-made treats for Fido!

Old Charleston Ghost Tours

Bring Fido along on an Old Charleston Ghost Tour! This walking tour starts in Washington Park and lasts about 90 minutes. You and your pooch may even hear a story about a ghost dog that roams the streets of Charleston.

Charleston Tea Plantation

Charleston Tea Plantation is a working tea-growing plantation on historic Wadmalaw Island. Dogs are welcome on the 127-acre grounds, but only service dogs are permitted in the shop and on trolley tours.

Sally's first Beach Trip
