Helping Those Feel Less Alone In This World.

This photo was taken in St. Michaels, MD. I talked to a stranger’s dog today. In hopes that my baby babble would reassure him that he was not alone.

I engaged in a conversation with a democrat today. I put beside my bias, my patience did not falter. I believe her opinions matter, we are Americans and we are all human. I hope that she felt empowered and that her voice was heard.

I said “hello” to an acquaintance that I had not seen in quite some time. It brought forth a smile, not from her happiness but from mine. I hope that she was inspired and felt her heart shine.

I hugged a lesbian today. We grew up together and as I recalled a childhood filled with laughter and fun…I hope that she felt the innocence of her younger years return.

I took a client in my arms today and embraced her, as she revealed some disheartening news. She’s having a medical procedure tomorrow and it will forever alter her life. I told her she’s in my thoughts and prayers. I hope her looming perception of loss was replaced with a calming sense of wellness. I wish her the notion of triumph over her anguish.

I smiled and nodded to an elderly gentleman with a pipe clinched in his teeth. With a puff of smoke, he said “hello.” I returned the greeting with small pleasantries about the day. It lifted my heart up and I was grateful for our interaction, however brief. I hope he felt the self awareness of his enchanting presence, as I did mine.

There are messengers sent to us everyday, if only we have the vision to see them as a bridge and the mind to understand them when they’re communicating with us. The more receptive we are to our surroundings, the deeper our understanding of ourselves.
