Grassy and Green

Love's Travel Stop

There are 2 sections. Both are the same size. Double gates, but the space under the gate is large enough that little pups can squeeze under, so be careful!
Luckily, we carry poo bags because both poo bag containers were empty. So, there were several landmines that hadn’t been picked up by other pet owners.
The park has seating, no shade but easily accessible on the west side of the station. Trash cans and poo dump for the poo bags. Water is available.

Small but safe spot

Kimble County Market Dog Park

This little spot doesn’t have much, but at least the pups can stretch their legs and empty their bladders. It’s a patchy collection of weeds, clovers and grass. There are poo bags and trash bin. No water though.
It is adjacent to a convenience store, so humans and vehicles can be tended to as well! It’s located right of the Interstate. Easy in and out.

Sandy Shenanigans

Dog Park at Crossroads at Silverbell District Park

This park may not have grass, but it has sand versus dirt. It has all the amenities that you need at a dog park. Two separate sections for small and large dogs. (double entry gates, water faucet, poo bags, trash receptacles and a few activity tunnels)

There are no trees, but there are benches (some covered)for us humans and a ramada adjacent to the entrance that has picnic tables.
It was very clean and luckily, the other doggo that was present was friendly. There are also human restrooms near by. Parking is plentiful.

Not too far off of the Interstate either. Good stopping point to let the pups stretch their legs. Close to lots of restaurants as well.

Doggone Delicious

Sonny's BBQ

We had our 2 pups with us, so we sat outside on one of the four picnic tables. Even though we were outside, our waitress was great! She was very attentive to our needs. We arrived after most of the lunch crowd had already departed. Our drinks, kids meals and appetizer came out quickly

Can you say HUGE?

Dog Park at Westside Community Park

This very large park is just a tiny bit out of the way off of the I-10, but worth the few extra miles! We were traveling through and found this park to be conveniently located as we were headed west. It was not difficult to find. It’s nestled within a well kept neighborhood within a community center.
There are 3 separated sections(a local advised it’s supposed to be sectioned off for small dogs, large dogs and mixed. However, the field originally meant for the large dogs has been closed for almost a year for unknown reasons.) All 3 sections are very large and roomy. There are plenty of poo bag stations, trash cans and watering areas. The double gated entries help prevent escapees. There was also a big bucket of new tennis balls available at no cost!

Not sure if they are just over watering or if there was a big rain storm, but there were several areas of large muddy patches. (not around the water bowl stations) Not a spot you want your dog running through when you’ve got a four hour car ride ahead of you!! Also, it’s such a shame that dog owners don’t keep track of their pups poop deposits! Unfortunately, we did have to dodge landmines that were left behind by irresponsible pet owners. There are a few benches for us humans, but not shaded. Since we stopped there at 9:30am at the end of September, it wasn’t an issue though.

If I lived in the area, I would frequent this dog park so my dogs could play and socialize.

Dog Friendly but not Human Friendly

Ida Reed Dog Park

We stopped at Ida Reed Dog Park on our way through Texas. This park was beautiful and very large. It had two separate sections for large and small dogs. The fencing and gates are triple secure, so no escape artists will be getting out! Although the grounds are well maintained, the poop bag dispenser located on the far side was empty. It’s a wonderful park for your dogs to run and play! However, it would be awesome if there were shaded benches within the park for pet owners and human bathrooms sure would be nice for people who are traveling through.

Only needs minor tweaks!

La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Gainesville

This hotel was obviously updated recently. They did a good job making the lobby and rooms feel and look new with modern decor and pleasant color schemes throughout. We had our two pups with us and not having to pay any fee to have them with us was a MAJOR PLUS! The front desk personnel were all pleasant and informative.

Our room was on the top floor, almost directly in front of the elevator. Initially, I was a little concerned that there would be a lot of noise, but we never heard the sounds associated with arrivals and departures of other guests. An earlier review mentioned that the top floor rooms are moldy, but I did not smell anything that would support that. Our room was clean and the bed was comfortable. There was either a cleaning agent or floral room deodorizer that was used in the room that I did not really care for. But, once we were in the room for a little bit, we did not notice it anymore.

The elevator is a little sketchy! Our first trip up to the room had us thinking that the elevator was getting stuck or that something within the pulley system was slipping. If the hotel would post a notice advising that the elevator has been inspected and that the sounds are harmless, that would have been helpful!
We were going to go soak in the hot tub, but it was not heating properly. The hotel clerk had no idea when they would be getting it fixed. We did not go in the pool, but it looked refreshing.

There are plenty of grassy areas to take your pets. However, they are not fenced areas. They also do not have any dog poo bags, so you'll want to grab an ice bucket bag if you don't have any poop bags of your own.

The breakfast is the typical free continental fare plus they had breakfast burritos. I don't know if they were supposed to have biscuits and gravy with sausage and forgot to put out the gravy or if they just had biscuits and sausage. Several folks did what I did and looked around for the gravy thinking that there was biscuits and gravy. The breakfast area is spacious and well organized when it comes to the placement of all the breakfast items.

There is a movie theater and an Applebees right next door. So, not only is there a place to have dinner or a drink and appetizers but you can also catch a movie if you wish. We would DEFINITELY stay at this La Quinta again. It was easily accessible, had good parking and the price was very reasonable.

Close to a lot

AmericInn by Wyndham Garden City

This dog friendly hotel, is conveniently located on the east side of town near shopping and restaurants. When we checked in, I asked the clerk where the pet relief area was located and her response was. "I have no clue! I guess I should ask." She then said there were several areas on the hotel grounds that were grassy.

Our room was clean and it was quiet. Luckily, we were right near the side door so that taking the pups out to potty was a long walk through the hotel. There was a fridge and microwave in the room, We should have double checked the setting of the refrigerator though, because it froze the drinks we put in it. The beds were comfy and there was a good selection of pillows to choose from.

The side door wasn't secure, so anyone could make entry into the hotel day or night, without a key. There was also a very visible sign that said, "No smoking within 50 feet." Several smokers, to include 2 of the morning employees, paid no attention to the sign. They sat and stood within arms reach of the door. This is a bit frustrating for those who are non-smokers and must walk through the cigarette smoke.

The free breakfast was minimal. There was no fruit and even though it goes until 9am, the items were sparse at 8am and needed to be replenished. It did not appear as though they have a breakfast specific attendant to keep watch over the breakfast area. On a good note, the coffee was tasty. I feel that we paid a fair price for what we got and we would stay there again.

Updated and Clean

La Quinta Inn by Wyndham Fort Collins

The hotel has been updated nicely inside. They actually even have a bar area where you can get a few adult beverages and a small selection of hot food items. There is also a little pantry area where you can purchase snacks. They had the typical continental breakfast, minus fresh fruits and the coffee was blah and lukewarm.

The lobby and room was clean and spacious. The beds were comfy and there was hardly any noise throughout our stay. The pet room had vinyl flooring, so there are no worries if your pet has an accident. There is a small, open pet area in the northeast corner of the hotel that has a bag/trash station. Luckily, responsible pet owners have kept the area picked up. The weight room is a nice size and the pool area was clean. We enjoyed a soak in the hot tub with the convenience of having pool towels as you enter.

The only reason I am giving 4 bones and not 5 is that there seemed to be a few homeless/questionable folks hanging out in the parking lot (but they never approached us) and one came in during breakfast and helped himself. I think the hotel staff could monitor that a little better.

All of the employees that we dealt with were professional and courteous. In fact, they all seemed to go out of their way to be friendly! One of the maintenance guys was carrying a chair down the hall when we were taking the dogs to our room and tucked himself away into a doorway because he didn't want to scare our dogs.(How considerate is that!!??) We would stay here again if we were ever in the area in the future.

Yummmm!

McAlister's Deli

Food was delicious! Weather was perfect for us to sit outside, under the covered patio with our🐾 doggos! Four tables are outside. Bring your own water bowl though!
Employees were all friendly. There was a really nice young man who had just gotten off work and was waiting for his ride. He had a conversation with us about our dogs, our trip through his state and his high school football game. Wish we had caught his name! Glad we stopped there!

The map put the restaurant in the middle of the road. If you have the same issue, it’s on the left side!

Dogs allowed but expect grumpy employees.

Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndham Rapid City

We stayed for 2 nights in a queen room on the 2nd floor. It was smaller than an average hotel room, but big enough for us and our 2 pups. It was clean and the bed was comfortable. It was quiet and we did not hear any noises from other hotel guests and their dogs. There are 2 grassy dog areas.(one is actually part of another hotel) Our room was located at the end of the hall near the stair well. That was great. However, once you go out the side door, it locked and would not unlock with a room key, even during the day. This was a bit frustrating as we then had to walk all the way around to the lobby in order to get back into the hotel.

They have an indoor pool and a jacuzzi, but the jacuzzi had no water in it. The free breakfast is very basic. If you're a hearty breakfast person, this will not fit the bill! The attendant was helpful, but she just wasn't very pleasant. A few individuals walked into the dining area without shoes and she was very rude when she told them they had to be wearing shoes. I understand enforcing the rules, but she did not have to be so nasty about it! She gave the impression that she wasn't happy to be there. Extended hours for breakfast on the weekends would have been appreciated. 9:30am end time on the weekend is a tad bit early in my opinion.

The evening clerk who checked us in was pleasant. Other than him, the rest of the front desk clerks were emotionless! Not rude, but definitely gave the impression they would rather not be there! Same thing with the room attendants.

They really need to consider moving the smoking area away from the front entrance! It's no joy having to walk through that obnoxious smoke cloud! I guess it's there so that the employees who do smoke can be in view of the front desk when they go out for a smoke.

Smaller than some but large enough and safe!

Mount Barkmore Dog Park

This dog park is easily accessible from the road. It is completely fenced in and has nice green grass for your pups. There is plenty of room to throw a ball and let your dogs run around and stretch their legs.

They love their history & your dog!

Hotel Nevada

Hotel Nevada and Gambling Hall in Ely was a pleasant little gem in the old part of town. We chose this location because we are traveling with our two pups. After doing a search on the BringFido app, we ended up picking this location. They are pet friendly and allow 2 dogs for a small fee of $15 total. The only issue pertaining to the dogs is that even though there are several open areas and parks within walking distance, there are no fenced in areas where you can just let your pups wander about freely. (The hotel has lots of parking areas that could be used to create a small enclosed dog park!) However, all of the staff we dealt with were dog friendly! They wanted to give them treats whenever we walked by the check-in counter!

The interior of the hotel contains so many unique displays of antique items, historical photos and animal mounts such as elk, deer and ram. They definitely put their own touch in decorating! When you enter, unfortunately, you’re greeted by the obnoxious odor of cigarette smoke. If you are non-smokers, like us, this is definitely a negative! Good new though, smoking is not permitted in the rooms, so, once you get to your room, you escape the smoke. (Except the remnants of it on your hair and clothes.)

The rooms are smaller than modern hotel rooms, but it was plenty for us. They’ve kept it pretty original. Wish I had gotten a pic before we made ourselves at home. The four-post bed was a little squeaky but the mattress was comfortable. You get a choice of real flat pillows or real fluffy pillows. It was surprisingly quiet and even though our room looked out onto the main street, we really did not hear any street noise. Nor did we hear any of our neighbors next to or above us. Complimentary items in the room were numerous!(coffee, bottled water, soaps, shampoos, conditioners, facial wipes) Although it is very obvious that it is a really old hotel. It’s really run down, but it was clean and smelled fresh. It would be a lot of fun to refurbish the rooms one at a time but still keeping the historical feel.

With our booking, we received two free drink tickets for a beer or margarita. We also got two free breakfast vouchers (Original Grand Slam and coffee) for Denny’s, which is located inside of the hotel. The Denny’s is no longer open 24 hours though. The wait staff advised that it was due to the changes they made during COVID. Could eventually get back to normal when people decide they want to work again! We would stay here again. Lots of friendly people! Lots of character! And the price was reasonable. ($95.34 a night plus the $15 for our pups)

A bark above!!

Jackpot Dog Park

Really clean and well maintained park for our pups to get out and stretch their legs! Shade, benches, water and lots of green grass. It was easy to find, not too far off the main road.
Single gates, but if you’re a responsible pet owner and are respectful of others’ pets, that shouldn’t be an issue!
Since we were traveling through, the only thing that would have made it better was if the bathrooms at the adjacent park would have had the human bathrooms unlocked!
