Located in northern Georgia and eastern Tennessee, the area preserves the sites of two major battles of the American Civil War. Skidaway Island State Park Located near historic Savannah, the dog-friendly Skidaway Island State Park is a part of Georgia’s intracoastal waterway. The park provides camping and picnicking surrounded by Spanish moss-draped live oaks. Trails wind through maritime forest and over salt marsh allowing visitors to watch for deer, fiddler crabs, raccoon, egrets and migrating birds such as colorful painted buntings. An observation tower provides another chance to watch for wildlife on the barrier island. Dogs must be leashed at all times and are not permitted in any buildings. See Details

Amicalola Falls State Park Leashed dogs are allowed at Amicalola Falls State Park, a pet-friendly natural space in Dawsonville, GA. The waterfall the park is named for is the main attraction, as it is 729 feet of beautiful cascading water, and the third tallest east of the Mississippi River. There are also many hiking trails you and Fido can explore. Pet parents should be aware that some of the trails leading to the falls include metal grate steps to make them non-slip for humans, however canines may find these challenging. Please keep your pup on a leash no longer than 6 feet and remember to clean up any messes they leave behind. See Details
Unicoi State Park Fido is welcome to explore Unicoi State Park in Helen, GA. This dog-friendly park features 1,029 acres of adventure activities, a 53-acre lake nestled between mountaintops and gorgeous trails to Helen and Anna Ruby Falls. There is even a small, fenced dog park next to the park's main office. Visiting pets must be friendly and on a short, sturdy leash. Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park is a dog-friendly national park in Kennesaw, GA. This National Battlefield preserves the land of this nearly three week long Civil War battle by the Atlanta Campaign. Fido is welcome to join you throughout the trails at this 2,965 acre park, however all pets must be on a leash no longer than 6 feet in length, and pets are not allowed in the visitor center, restroom facilities, shuttle bus, or near the water fountains. Leashed dogs are welcome in the park, which is the largest in the historic district of Savannah, clocking in at over thirty acres. Fort Frederica National Monument Fort Frederica National Monument is pet-friendly. Once a thriving British town and fort founded in 1736 by General James Edward Oglethorpe, this pet-friendly structure was designed to defend the northern colonies against Spanish attack. Dogs must be leashed, well-behaved and cleaned up after. There are dog waste bag stations at the entrance to the historic area, and at the dinghy dock, plus water fountains for dogs and people on the breezeway porch of the visitor center. Wormsloe State Historic Site Leashed dogs are allowed on pet-friendly historic site trails at Wormsloe State Historic Site in Savannah, GA. A breathtaking avenue sheltered by live oaks and Spanish moss leads to the tabby ruins of this Colonial estate dating back to the 1700. The interpretive nature trail (0.8 miles) leads past the tabby ruins along the marsh to the Colonial Life Area where, during programs and special events, demonstrators in period dress exhibit the tools and skills of Colonial Georgia. Many more nature trails are also accessible, ranging from 3 miles (Battery Trail) to 0.2 miles (Yellow Trail). Dogs are not allowed in any buildings. See Details
