Airbnbs to Glamp With Your Dog

Posted by Lauren Barker

If your pup loves the great outdoors and going on adventures during the day, but still prefers his warm, plush bed and being out of the elements at night, glamping might be his style. From safari tents and yurts to domes and Airstreams, these dog-friendly Airbnbs allow Fido a taste of the wild, but without many of the hassles that come with traditional camping. They also include several added luxuries you’re both sure to enjoy.

Travel off the grid with your four-legged adventurer and stay at this Mountain View Yurt in Basalt, just 20 miles from the popular resort town of Aspen. You’ll need a four-wheel drive vehicle to reach the private location, but the site has all you need for the perfect glamping experience. The furnished yurt features solar-powered electricity, running water from a gravity-fed spring, and an outdoor shower. From the front deck you and your pup can admire gorgeous views of three 14ers, including Capitol Peak. Take Fido for a hike along the nearly two-mile Arbaney Kittle Trail which ascends 2,000 vertical feet to an overlook of Fryingpan Valley. You might even meet the property owner’s five canine companions who patrol the land during the day.

If you’ve always wanted to experience the joys of glamping in an Airstream camper, but without the price tag of owning one, this Blairsville rental is for you. Bring your hiking hound along for a tranquil forest escape, just minutes from the Appalachian Trail and the shorter six-mile Blood Mountain Loop. The vintage camper features a queen bed and pull-out sofa, heating and A/C, and a private bathroom. Guests can also use the larger separate bathhouse, shared by guests of the property’s other rentals, which features a large private shower overlooking the forest. Fido can join you for dinner in the camper’s kitchen, on the covered deck, or at the outdoor dining area, followed by an evening campfire.

Pups will love doggie paddling while you sit at the base of the mossy rock waterfall and relax. The space features a queen bed, wood camp stove with firewood, a butane stove with fuel, cooking utensils, solar powered string lights, a picnic table, and more. Guests can use the solar shower and camp toilet, and will enjoy a cozy night around the firepit with Fido. If a cool night has you craving a little more heat, try out the property’s sauna. Your pooch can relax on the deck while you prepare a delicious meal on the barbeque grill, or head into town for dinner on the patio of Portside Inn.

Your pup might make friends with the chickens, calves, and other farm animals residing here during your stay. Along with other glampers on the property, you’ll have access to the one-acre spring-fed pond with a sandy beach. Let Fido go for a paddle or take out one of the two sit-on-top kayaks to explore the pond, or use the three recreational kayaks with life jackets for river exploration. When Fido needs a sweet treat after a day on the water, head into town and visit The Ice Cream Man to satisfy his craving.

Fido will enjoy having free roam in the fully-fenced yard shared with two other retro camper rentals. Upon arrival he’ll meet the property owner’s own small dogs to assure everyone gets along, as you may encounter them throughout your stay. The trailer has many original features, but includes updated plumbing and electrical systems, a propane furnace for heat, and a full bathroom with a tub and shower. Spend a day exploring Carson National Forest or take your pooch for a drive along the Enchanted Circle Scenic Byway, then return to the trailer for dinner and to warm your bones around the campfire.

This 21 and over campsite nestled beneath redwoods and just minutes from dog-friendly Its Beach, features a queen bed on a raised platform, and is protected from the elements by a canvas tent with sealable mesh and canvas doors. Two Adirondack chairs, a picnic table and both an interior tent stove and outdoor fire pit are provided. While there is no electricity, solar lights and battery-operated candles will illuminate the tent. Your pup may meet baby goats, chickens or ponies grazing on the neighboring working farm, and he should be kept inside the tent at night to avoid encountering wildlife like mountain lions.
